A power controller provides control signals to the power sources depending on the operational RF power level. For low power applications, biasing of collector electrodes is reduced such that savings in energy costs are realized, and operational temperature and wear are reduced. The control signals are based on values stored in a look-up table. For multiple depressed electrodes, biasing can be controlled in tandem or independently.

    摘要: A collector for an electron beam tube comprises a plurality of electrode stages. The electrode stages are spaced from one another by a non-conductive spacer. The non-conductive spacer is located between portions of electrodes and extends into the collector on a first side and out of the collector on a second side. The non-conductive spacer has an inner portion extending into the collector and an outer portion extending out of the collector and a waisted portion there between. The spacer is held at the waisted portion.

    摘要: A linear beam device comprises a cathode and an anode spaced therefrom, with the anode and cathode being operable to form and accelerate an electron beam. An RF interaction region having a drift tube is arranged relative to the anode to permit the electron beam to pass therethrough. A multi-stage depressed collector of the linear beam device has a plurality of collector electrodes successively arranged to collect spent electrons of the electron beam after passing through the RF interaction region. Each one of the plurality of collector electrodes has a distinct voltage level applied thereto defining a decelerating electric field within the collector. At least one of the plurality of collector electrodes further comprises a collecting surface having a shape that is normal to a coincident trajectory of the spent electrons, whereby a substantial portion of the collecting surface is covered with a plurality of narrow grooves. In an embodiment of the invention, the grooved collector electrode further comprises the final electrode of the collector. The final electrode has a surface that is substantially spherical, and the plurality of grooves may be arranged in a concentric pattern of circles on the electrode surface. The plurality of grooves may be formed to a depth that is approximately twice a corresponding width. A region adjacent to an opening of each of the plurality of grooves comprises electric fields defining a convergent lens, thereby focusing the spent electrons into the plurality of grooves.

    摘要: A travelling-wave tube amplifier comprises a travelling-wave tube, a plurality of collector electrodes, a plurality of collector leads and at least one magnetic core. The travelling-wave tube causes interaction between an electron beam and an input high frequency signal to amplify the high frequency signal, and outputs the amplified high frequency signal. The plurality of the collector electrodes capture the electron beam which was subjected to velocity modulation by the interaction. The plurality of the collector electrodes are electrically connected to a power source via the plurality of the collector leads. The at least one magnetic core comprises a through hole. Any two of the plurality of the collector leads go through the through hole in one of the magnetic cores. Currents flowing through the two collector leads through the through hole in the magnetic core generate magnetic fluxes in the magnetic core. The directions of the generated magnetic fluxes are reversed from each other.

    摘要: A traveling wave tube incorporates a collector having a plurality of collector electrodes, one or more of which is operated at a potential below that of the cathode so as to collect electrons having associated energies greater than the cathode potential (E.sub.K), and thereby act as a high impedance current source. The current from the collector electrode operated below the cathode potential (E.sub.K) is converted by a power converter to an alternating current signal that can be either magnetically coupled to the high voltage transformer (T.sub.1) of the traveling wave tube power supply, or coupled to an external load with a transformer (T.sub.2), thereby improving the operating efficiency of the traveling wave tube system.

    摘要: A self-biasing element is formed by coupling an electron accumulator to a collector stage of a linear-beam microwave tube with a base which has a selected resistance. The electron accumulator has a secondary emission coefficient less than one and is positioned to intercept a portion of the electrons in the electron beam of the linear-beam microwave tube. The electron accumulator thus acquires a negative voltage whose magnitude is controlled by selecting the base resistance and the radial and axial position of the self-biasing element within the collector. Various arrangements of self-biasing elements and collector stages are disclosed which improve the efficiency and RF performance of the microwave tube.
