摘要： A projection type image display apparatus of the present invention includes: a light source; a polarization selective reflection element having a function of reflecting or transmitting a light beam from the light source in accordance with a polarization direction thereof; and an element for modulating a polarization plane of an incident light beam in accordance with an image to be displayed. The polarization selective reflection element is film-like and has an optical transmission axis and an optical reflection axis. The polarization selective reflection element transmits a first linearly polarized light beam, and reflects a second linearly polarized light beam having a polarization plane orthogonal to a polarization plane of the first linearly polarized light beam, regardless of a direction of incidence of a light beam with respect to the polarization selective reflection element.

摘要： A projection type image display apparatus which includes an arc lamp for emitting light rays by arc discharge, a reflecting mirror for reflecting the light from the arc lamp, the light rays being made parallel by an optical means such as a condenser lens, and projected into a transmissive display panel. The parallel rays are focused by the microlens array in the respective picture elements. The light rays through the transmissive display panel are projected onto a screen. The arc of the arc lamp is directed perpendicularly to the optical axis of an optical system so that the light rays are made parallel with the optical axis by the optical means.

摘要： A liquid crystal display element, which is installed in a projection-type color liquid crystal display, is provided with the first glass substrate. The first glass substrate is provided with the first micro-lens array on its light-incident side and the second micro-lens array on its light-releasing side. The first micro-lens array converges light beams of respective primary colors onto the vicinity of the light-releasing position on the second micro-lens array. The second micro-lens array makes the incident light beams parallel to each other and releases them from the liquid crystal display element. Thus, even in the case of using a projection lens having a small diameter, it is possible to improve the efficiency of utilization of light. Moreover, this arrangement eliminates the necessity of having to employ a comparatively expensive projection lens with a large diameter, thereby reducing the costs of production.

摘要： A light source device emits light for positional alignment and light for adhesion toward the optical devices. A position detecting device receives the light for positional alignment from the optical devices and optically detects a positional displacement of the optical devices. A positional alignment mechanism moves the optical devices with respect to each other in accordance with a detecting result of the position detecting device, thereby positionally aligning the optical devices. After the optical devices are positionally aligned, the light for adhesion is radiated to a photo-curing adhesive resin interposed between the optical devices, thereby adhering the optical devices.

摘要： The present invention provides a lighting device including a light source; a reflecting mirror for reflecting light emitted by the light source in a determined direction; and a compensating element for receiving the light from the reflecting mirror and allowing the light to outgo in the form of parallel rays. Further, a projection type image display system including the above-mentioned lighting device and a display element for forming an image by receiving light from the lighting device is provided. According to the present invention, light can be emitted with a satisfactory degree of parallelization and an even illuminance, constant irregularity due to the photoelasticity can be degraded, and the degradation in brightness of a projected image due to a low ratio of aperture can be avoided. Thus, a uniform image with no illuminance irregularity can be projected.

摘要： A light source, an image display panel including multiple pixel regions, each of which modulates light, light control means for focusing light from the light source onto associated pixel regions according to their wavelength ranges, and optical systems that form an image on a projection plane by the light that has been modulated by the panel are provided. A circuit for generating data representing multiple image subframes from data representing each image frame as a component of the image and getting the subframes displayed by the panel time-sequentially, and an image shifter for shifting a selected one of the subframes on the projection plane are further provided. The same area on the projection plane is sequentially irradiated with light rays that have been modulated by different pixel regions of the panel and that fall within respectively different wavelength ranges.
