    摘要: The invention provides a liquid crystal display device capable of displaying colors clearly and with high visibility in both a reflective mode and a transmissive mode. The liquid crystal display device according to the invention can be a transflective liquid crystal display device including a reflection layer, color filters in which coloring layers of different colors are arranged corresponding to sub-pixel regions, and light shielding layers for partitioning the adjacent sub-pixel regions, and the transflective liquid crystal display device displays images in reflective regions and transmissive regions. Colored regions, in which the coloring layers of the color filters exist, and non-colored regions, in which the coloring layers do not exist, are provided in the reflective regions. Both the colored regions and the non-colored regions can be provided so as to overlap the light shielding layers along the longitudinal direction of the sub-pixel regions in plan view.

    摘要: The invention provides a liquid crystal display device capable of displaying colors clearly and with high visibility in both a reflective mode and a transmissive mode. A second liquid crystal cell can be included between the first cell and one of the polarizers. A driver circuit drives the liquid crystal cells by the dynamic drive method by applying a selecting voltage, a non-selecting voltage, and one or more intermediate voltages to generate the different colors.

    摘要: An electro-optical device includes at least two adjacent transparent twisted nematic liquid crystal cells, each cell having a twisted nematic liquid crystal with a twist angle greater than 90.degree. between a pair of spaced apart opposed substrates with electrodes selectively disposed thereon. A linear polarizer is disposed on an exterior surface of each of the two cells. One of the two cells includes a plurality of electrodes for selectively producing a desired display. Application of a suitable voltage to the second cell compensates for changes in ambient temperature conditions or undesirable thicknesses in the liquid crystal materials of the two cells to ensure that a monochromatic display having excellent contrast is produced by the device and compensates for elliptically polarized light emitted by the first cell so that the device produces substantially linearly polarized light.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display device includes a first twisted nematic liquid crystal cell and an optically anisotropic material sandwiched between two polarizers. A second twisted nematic liquid crystal cell or polymer film serves as the optically anisotropic material. The optically anisotropic material may be disposed on one or both sides of the first twisted nematic liquid crystal. The optically anisotropic material compensates for the elliptical polarization of the light passing through the liquid crystal cell so that the device transmits white light in the OFF state and appears black in the ON state.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display device and method of fabrication thereof includes a first twisted nematic liquid crystal cell and an optically anisotropic material sandwiched between two polarizers. A second twisted nematic liquid crystal cell or polymer film serves as the optically anisotropic material. The optically anisotropic material may be disposed on one or both sides of the first twisted nematic liquid crystal. The optically anisotropic material compensates for the elliptical polarization of the light passing through the liquid crystal cell so that the device transmits while light in the OFF state and appears black in the ON state.
