    摘要: An object is to achieve both high-density output waveguides and uniformity of the losses between the output waveguides. In a waveguide type optical splitter, formed on a substrate are an input waveguide, a plurality of output waveguides, and a slab waveguide. The slab waveguide has an input end and an output end. The output end is in an arc shape with the input end or the vicinity being the center. The input waveguide is connected to the input end and a plurality of the output waveguides are connected to the output end. In the center portion of the output end, the output waveguides are directly connected to the output end. In the peripheral portion of the output end, the output waveguides are connected to the output end through the tapered waveguide whose waveguide width is widened towards the output end. Further, the opening width of the tapered waveguide becomes wider as going towards the periphery.

    摘要: An optical module is configured with a combination of a single-mode oscillating light source and an optical filter. In this optical module, the single-mode oscillating light source outputs a single-mode, frequency-modulated signal. Further, the optical filter converts the frequency modulation to an amplitude modulation. And, the single-mode oscillating light source and the optical filter are packaged without active alignment on the same substrate. Accordingly, it is possible to realize an optical module in a simple and low-cost configuration by packaging the single-mode oscillating light source and the optical filter by passive alignment, without active alignment, on the same substrate, and by using a simple optical filter such as a waveguide ring resonator, which converts a frequency modulation to an amplitude modulation.

    摘要: An optical module is configured with a combination of a single-mode oscillating light source and an optical filter.     摘要: A picture is divided into parts that are coded by different computing resources. The picture consists of blocks, which are the basic units in the coding process; each part includes one or more blocks. To determine how to divide the picture into parts, first a scene differential is calculated for each block, indicating a degree of change that takes place in the block, and a coding processing time is predicted for each block on the basis of its scene differential. The picture is then divided into parts with substantially equal total predicted coding processing times.
