A method for producing an organomagnesium complex which is soluble in an inert hydrocarbon medium and expressed by the general formula Mg.sub..alpha. Al.sub..beta. R.sup.1 .sub.p Y.sub.q is provided. In this formula.alpha., .beta., p and q each is a number greater than zero,.alpha./.beta. = about 0.5 to 20,2.alpha. and 3.beta. = p + q,q/.beta. = about 0.5 to 1.5,Y is OR.sup.2 or OSiR.sup.3 R.sup.4 R.sup.5,R.sup.1, r.sup.2 and R.sup.3 each independently is a hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, andR.sup.4 and R.sup.5 each independently is a hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, hydrogen or a halogen atom.Said complex is prepared by reacting (A) an organomagnesium compound R.sup.1.sub.a M.sub.g X.sub.2-a wherein x is halogen, with (B) an aluminum compound AlYX.sub.2 wherein Y and X have the same meanings as above-defined. This method is superior to the prior art with respect to ease of reaction, high reaction efficiency and safety. Further the complex is safe during storage and handling. When the complex is employed as an olefin polymerization catalyst, the catalyst efficiency is higher and the characteristic properties of the resultant polymer are superior to those of polymers with other complexes.

This invention is directed to a thermoplastic terpolymer excelling in thermal stability and transparency and possessing high mechanical strength, specifically a thermoplastic copolymer (I) composed of 30 to 70% by weight of (A) an aromatic vinyl compound unit, 4 to 40% by weight of (B) a vinyl cyanide unit, and 26 to 50% by weight of (C) an N-substituted maleimide and characterized by having a narrow distribution of molecular weight divisions of copolymer composition as measured by GPC, having substantially no acetone-insoluble content, possessing a weight average molecular weight in the range of 100,000 to 300,000 and a number average molecular weight in the range of 50,000 to 150,000, and having a residual N-substituted maleimide content of not more than 50 ppm. It further concerns a method for efficient production of the thermoplastic copolymer and a thermoplastic resin composition containing the copolymer I, allowing manufacture of shaped articles excelling in thermal stability and resistance to chemicals and, at the same time, possessing high impact strength, and befitting materials for automobile interior parts and electrical and electronic parts.

A multi-layer structure polymer (A) comprising (i) 2 to 30% by weight of an alkyl methacrylate unit, (ii) 50 to 80% by weight of an alkyl acrylate unit, (iii) 5 to 20% by weight of an unsaturated nitrile unit and (iv) 5 to 40% by weight of an aromatic vinyl unit, wherein:(a) the multi-layer structure polymer consists essentially of an inner layer and an outer layer in a ring form, the portion of the inner layer (.beta. layer) within the ring has an average diameter of 2,000 to 6,500 .ANG.,(b) the outer layer (.alpha. layer) portion surrounding the inner layer in the ring form has an average thickness of 200 to 500 .ANG.,(c) the inner layer portion has a plurality of small particles (.gamma. layer) totally micro-dispersed, and(d) the multi-layer structure polymer has an acetone-insoluble portion having (i) a swell degree in methyl ethyl ketone of 1.5 to 10 and (ii) a tensile modulus of 1,000 to 10,000 kg/cm.sup.2, a resin composition having excellent weatherability and impact resistance comprising the multi-layer structure polymer (A) and at least one thermoplastic resin, and a molded article produced therefrom.
