In some embodiments, the plurality of noise monitoring devices may include hearing protection devices configured to detect noise, and typically may communicate such noise data (which may also include location) so that the noise data can be pooled. Abstract: A hearing protection device configured to measure the noise exposure of a user and to provide a time remaining estimate until a maximum noise exposure level is achieved. Generally, the hearing protection device may comprise a sound sealing section, a microphone configured to generate a detected sound signal indicative of the measured sound level at the user's ear canal, a memory/storage configured to record the detected sound signal as sound exposure history, a timer configured to measure the amount of time the hearing protection device is exposed to sound, and a processor configured to receive a timer signal from the timer and the detected sound signal to calculate a time remaining estimate until reaching the maximum noise exposure level. Additionally, the maximum noise exposure level may be based on industry regulations or personalized hearing thresholds.

Abstract: A method of limiting noise damage to an individual includes receiving, by an ototoxicity application stored in a non-transitory memory and executed on a processor, a first individual exposure level to a first ototoxic condition in an area, correlating the first individual exposure level to an ototoxic effect, determining a noise level threshold based on the correlating, receiving a noise level exposure in the area, comparing the noise level threshold with the noise level exposure, and sending an alert when the noise level exposure exceeds the noise level threshold. The noise level threshold is below a standard noise level threshold.

Abstract: A hearing protection earmuff may be configured to dampen vibrations at an interface. Generally, the hearing protection earmuff may comprise two ear cups, a headband attached to and connecting the ear cups, one or more sensors, a processor, an electroacoustic shock absorber, and an electromagnetic controller. Typically, the electromagnetic controller may be associated with an electroacoustic shock absorber and may be configured to control the dampening of the electroacoustic shock absorber. The dampening of the electroacoustic shock absorber may occur as a smart fluid changes viscosity in response to a signal received from the electromagnetic controller. In some embodiments, the clamping force between the headband and the ear cup may be varied by the electroacoustic shock absorber to minimize the vibrational impact on the user's ears. In some embodiments, the electroacoustic shock absorber may control the compressibility of the seal cushion located on each ear cup.

A method may comprise monitoring environmental sounds with a hearing protection device; transmitting acoustic signatures from the hearing protection device to a portable electronic device; transmitting the acoustic signatures from the portable electronic device to a server; correlating the acoustic signatures with information in a database; transmitting a message from the server to the portable electronic device indicating the correlation; creating a suggestion with the portable electronic device based on the correlation; and transmitting the suggestion from the portable electronic device to the hearing protection device based on the correlation.
