There are provided an electromagnetic shielding sheet and a plasma display apparatus. The electromagnetic shielding sheet includes a base sheet; a first layer on a first surface of the base sheet, the first layer including first and second patterns crossing each other; and a second layer on a second surface of the base sheet, the second layer including a third pattern. The first and second patterns include a conductive material, the third pattern includes a light absorbing material, and at least one of the first and second patterns is grounded. Accordingly, conductive patterns for shielding electromagnetic waves and blocking external light are formed on a first surface of a base sheet, and patterns for blocking external light are formed on a second surface of the base sheet, so that the functions of shielding electromagnetic waves and blocking external light can be simultaneously performed using one sheet, and therefore, the ambient contrast ratio of a display image can be enhanced without increasing manufacturing costs. Further, patterns for shielding electromagnetic waves are directly formed a glass member of a filter or an upper substrate of the panel, so that processes of forming an electromagnetic shielding sheet can be easily performed.

A plasma display device is provided. The plasma display device includes a plasma display panel (PDP) which includes an upper substrate on which a plurality of black matrices are formed; and an external light shielding sheet which is disposed at a front of the PDP and includes a base unit and a plurality of pattern units that are formed on the base unit and that have a lower refractive index than the base unit. A distance between a pair of adjacent black matrices is 4-12 times greater than a distance between a pair of adjacent pattern units. Therefore, it is possible for a plasma display device to effectively realize black images and enhance bright room contrast with the aid of an external light shielding sheet which is disposed at a front of a PDP and which absorbs and shields as much external light incident upon the PDP as possible. Also, it is possible to reduce the probability of occurrence of the moire phenomenon and enhance the luminance of images displayed by a PDP by forming a plurality of pattern units on an external light shielding sheet so that the distance between the pair of adjacent pattern units can fall within a predetermined percentage range of the distance between the pair of adjacent black matrices formed on a PDP, or that the width of the pattern units can fall within a predetermined percentage range of the width of black matrices formed on the PDP.

A plasma display device is provided. A plasma display device is provided. The plasma display device includes a plasma display panel (PDP) and an external light shield sheet which absorbs external light incident upon the PDP. The external light shield sheet includes a base unit and a plurality of pattern units which are formed in the base unit. Each of the pattern units contains 2-10 weight % of light absorption particles having a size of 1 μm or less. Since the external light shield sheet which can absorb and shield as much external light as possible is disposed at the front of the PDP, the plasma display device can effectively realize black images and improve bright room contrast.

The plasma display device comprises a plasma display panel and the filter which is formed at a front of the plasma display panel, wherein the filter includes an external light shielding sheet which comprises a base unit, and a plurality of pattern units formed on the base unit, wherein a bottom of the pattern units, which is wider than a top of the pattern units, comprises a concave having a curvature. The device can improve bright room contrast. Also, the sharpness of the display images may be enhanced by reducing the bleeding phenomenon of the display images as well as the adhesiveness of the filter may be enhanced by forming the bottom of the pattern units of the external light shielding sheet as a concave shape in which the center area is depressed into the inside.

The present invention relates to a filter and a plasma display device thereof, and the filter includes: a base unit; and an external light shielding sheet including a plurality of pattern units each formed spaced from the base unit to absorb external light, wherein the base unit includes dye and pigment absorbing light in a specific wavelength region.With the present invention, the external light shielding sheet maximally absorbing and shielding light incident upon the PDP from the outside is disposed in front of the PDP, making it possible to effectively implement black images and enhance bright room contrast. Also, the base unit of the external light shielding sheet includes the dye or pigment absorbing light in a specific wavelength region, making it possible to shield external light and enhance light property of the plasma display device simultaneously with reducing manufacturing costs of the filter.
