    摘要: In a printing press, a transfer cylinder assembly for transferring a freshly printed substrate is provided. The transfer cylinder assembly comprises a transfer cylinder, a first attachment structure comprising a plurality of loops coupled to the transfer cylinder, and an anti-marking device. The anti-marking device comprises a second attachment structure comprising a plurality of hooks and a flexible jacket to engage the freshly printed substrate as it is transferred over the transfer cylinder assembly. The second attachment structure is at least semi-permanently coupled to the flexible jacket, and the anti-marking device is removably attached over the transfer cylinder by coupling the second attachment structure with the first attachment structure.

    摘要: A sheet transfer assembly for use above an ultraviolet curing unit in a flexographic printing press used for printing corrugated sheets includes a vacuum plate with heat sinks. The vacuum plate includes openings for rollers that extend through the vacuum plate to drive printed sheets across the bottom of the transfer assembly. Heat sinks are formed on the top surface of the vacuum plate between rollers to remove heat from the vacuum plate. Heat from the UV curing unit is effectively dissipated from the vacuum plate into the air used to hold printed substrates against the rollers in the transfer assembly.

A split catwalk is provided on a press and rollers are provided on the printer coater to facilitate moving the printer coater into engagement with the press. A cart is used to move the printer coater adjacent the press and rails are used to move the printer coater from the cart onto the catwalk. One adjustable tensioner is positioned to apply force to the center of the chambered doctor and reduced wear on seal components.

    摘要: A multipart printing press cylinder. A pair of hubs have an inner bore for mounting on a press shaft. Each hub is made in two parts which may be positioned about the press shaft and attached to each other by, e.g. screws. Each hub has a profile section. A pair of partial shells each include a pair of cylinder frames having a profile matching a hub profile. Manually releasable latches are provided for holding each partial shell on the hubs when the partial shell profiles are mated with the hub profiles. The outer perimeter of each cylinder frame has a radius and contour defining the outer size and shape of a printing press cylinder. A surface material, e.g. sheet aluminum, is formed to fit the frame perimeters and are preferably attached under tension to the frames.

    摘要: A zoned UV curing system for drying UV inks and coatings in printing presses. A plurality of linear UV lamps are spaced apart laterally across the travel path of substrates in a press. The axis of each lamp is aligned generally with the travel path, but may be slanted slightly so that every point on the travel path passes directly under at least one lamp. Power supply and control means allow selection of which lamps are powered, so that unneeded lamps may be turned off to save power. The power level of each lamp is variable. One transverse UV lamp may be placed upstream to initiate curing before substrates pass the zoned system. An IR heater may be placed upstream to preheat UV ink and coatings to enhance curing and to smooth coatings.

    摘要: Freshly printed sheets are transferred from one printing unit to another by transfer cylinders each having an ink repellent, electrically conductive, striped flexible jacket covering that is movable relative to the sheet support surface of the transfer cylinder. The jacket covering is made of a flexible fabric material that is pre-stretched, pressed flat, cut to size and treated with an ink repellent compound and is also treated with an anti-static ionic compound or is otherwise rendered electrically conductive by one or more conductive strands. Electrostatic charges carried by the freshly printed sheets are discharged through the ink repellent, electrically conductive, flexible jacket covering into the grounded transfer cylinder. A low friction, electrically conductive cylinder base covering that includes center alignment marks is secured to the transfer cylinder for engaging the flexible jacket covering. The ink repellent, electrically conductive flexible jacket covering is provided with alignment center marks and alignment stripes so that the flexible jacket covering can be precisely aligned with ease and secured over the gripper edge, tail edge and side edges of the transfer cylinder. The low frictional coefficient of the conductive cylinder base covering is further reduced by nodes and/or openings.

    摘要: A retractable in-line inking/coating apparatus can apply either spot or overall inking/coating material to a plate and/or a blanket on the first printing unit or on any consecutive printing unit of any rotary offset printing press. The inking/coating apparatus is pivotally mounted within the conventional dampener space of any lithographic printing unit. The aqueous component of the flexographic printing ink or aqueous coating material is evaporated and dried by high velocity, hot air dryers and high performance heat and moisture extractors so that the aqueous or flexographic ink or coating material on a freshly printed or coated sheet is dry and can be dry-trapped on the next printing unit. The inking/coating apparatus includes dual cradles that support first and second applicator rollers so that the inking/coating apparatus can apply a double bump of aqueous/flexographic or UV-curable printing ink or coating material to a plate on the plate cylinder, while simultaneously applying aqueous, flexographic or UV-curable printing ink or coating material to a plate or a blanket on the blanket cylinder, and thereafter onto a sheet as the sheet is transferred through the nip between the blanket cylinder and the impression cylinder. A triple bump is printed or coated on the last printing unit with the aid of an impression cylinder inking/coating unit.

    摘要: A vacuum assisted sheet transfer assembly has an array of support bars which support the unprinted side of a freshly printed sheet along a sheet transfer path. The support bars overlie the airflow inlet of a manifold housing, with the longitudinal axis of each support bar extending across the sheet transfer path. The support bars provide smooth surfaces for engaging and supporting the unprinted side of the sheet material as it is pulled along the transfer path while simultaneously limiting the flow of inlet air through elongated inlet apertures. As air is drawn through the inlet apertures, the unprinted side of the sheet is sucked into engagement with the support bars as it moves along the sheet transfer path. The sheet transfer assembly eliminates the need for conventional skeleton wheels and the like. Marking, smearing and smudging are prevented since the printed side of the sheet is not handled or contacted in any way as the sheet is conveyed along the sheet transfer path.

The method comprises coupling an adjustment tool to a transfer cylinder substantially parallel to an axis of the transfer cylinder and coupling a first end of a flexible jacket to a first attachment structure coupled to the transfer cylinder, wherein the first attachment structure is proximate to a first edge of the transfer cylinder. The method further comprises placing the jacket around the transfer cylinder and over the adjustment tool and coupling the second end of the jacket to a second attachment structure coupled to the transfer cylinder, wherein the second attachment structure is proximate to a second edge of the transfer cylinder and the jacket is attached without free play to the transfer cylinder. The method further comprises withdrawing the adjustment tool from between the transfer cylinder and the jacket, whereby an amount of free play of the flexible jacket remains.

    摘要: The invention is a simple, inexpensive, wash-free integrated cover for a printing transfer cylinder (preferably, but not necessarily, in a Komori press), comprising a flexible jacket covering permanently attached to a cylinder base cover. The invention provides advantages over T-Y paper and non-tack film in that dampening solution, washing, and cleaning causes failure in both over time, whereas dampening solution is beneficial to the present invention as such is retained in the flexible jacket cover and helps to prevent ink buildup and marking. The flexible jacket covering is moveable relative to the cylinder base cover, thereby further reducing ink buildup and marking. The integrated cover is disposable, which reduces periodic maintenance and cleaning of the transfer cylinder coverings and provides for fresh, clean substrate support surfaces upon each new installation. The flexible jacket covering and cylinder base cover are integrated into a single, convenient unit, thereby speeding and simplifying installation.
