    Abstract: A corrugated core paperboard in which the edges of the the core convolutions are sealed by method and apparatus for preparing a film of thermoplastic material along the board edges; the method including the steps of feeding the board along a path, passing the edge of the board through an applicator and applying a film of thermoplastic material to the board edge as the edge passes through the applicator; the apparatus including driven belts between which the board is fed in a path, an applicator along the edge of the path and means for feeding thermoplastic material to the applicator.

    Abstract: A BUNDLE OF CORRUGATED BOARDS, HAVING THE FLUTED CHANNELS OF THE BOARDS IN SUBSTANTIALLY UNIDIRECTIONAL ALIGNMENT THROUGHOUT THE BUNDLY IS CONTINUOUSLY ADVANCED THROUGH AN APPARATUS WHICH COMPRISES MEANS FOR SUPPORTING THE BUNDLY, MEANS FOR APPLYING A COMPRESSIVE FORCE AGAINST THE OUTER SURFACES OF THE BUNDLE TO MAINTAIN SURFACES OF ADJOINING BOARDS IN THE BUNDLE IN TIGHT ABUTMENT AS THE BUNDLY ADVANCES, WITH AT LEAST A PORTION OF THE COMPRESSION MEASN FORMING THE WALLS OF A TROUGH IN THE ZONE OF IMPREGNATION WITH THE BOTTOM OF THE TROUGH BEING DEFINED BY THE UPPER SURFACE OF THE BUNDLE; THE TROUGHT WALLS TIGHTLY ABUT AGAINST AT LEAST THE UPPER PORTIONS OF THE OUTER SURFACES OF THE BUNDLE. MEANS ARE PROVIDED FOR DELIVERING A LIQUID IMPREGNATING COMPOSITION INTO THE TROUGH AS THE BUNDLE ADVANCES THROUGH THE TROUGH. THE TROUGH COMMUNICATES WITH THE ALIGNED FLUTTED CHANNELS OR THE BUNDLE. SINCE THE INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS OF THE BUNDLE ARE TIGHTLY COMPRESSED TOGETHER, THE IMPREGNATING LIQUID FLOWS DOWNWARDLY THROUGH THE FLUTED CHANELS OF THE BOARDS WITHOUT CONTACTING THE OUTER SURFACES OF

    THE INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS OF THE BUNDLE. WHEN IMPREGNATION IS COMPLETED, SEQUENTIAL MEANS ARE PROVIDED FOR: FIRST, CIRCULATING A GAS THROUGH THE FLUTED CHANNELS OF THE BOARD BUNDLY AS IT CONTINUOUSLY ADVANCES TO FLUSH OUT EXCESS IMPREGNANT; SECOND, MEANS FOR CIRCULATING A HOT GAS THROUGH THE FLUTED CHANNELS OF THE BUNDLE TO DRIVE OFF VOLATILES CONTAINED THE IMPREGNATING COMPOSITION; THIRD, CIRCULATING A SECOND STREAM OF THE HOT GAS THOUGH THE FLUTED CHANNELS OF THE DRIED BUNDLE AS IT CONTINUOUSLY ADVANCES TO EFFECTUATE CURING OF THE IMPREGNANT CONTAINED IN THE BOARDS; AND FOURTHLY, DELIVERING WATER INTO THE FLUTED CHANNELS OF THE BUNDLE AS IT CONTINUOUSLY ADVANCES IN ORDER TO HUMIDIFY THE BOARDS.

    Abstract: A method for making corrugated core paperboard in which the edges of the facing sheets are rolled inwardly toward each other and tucked into the end of the corrugated core convolutions to form an enclosure thereof; including feeding the board along a path, slitting the end of the core by cutting or crushing the core along a line intermediate the facing sheets and rolling and tucking the end edges of the facing sheets into the slit, the apparatus including driven belts between which the board is fed along a path, a knife support along the edge of the path through which the edge of the board is fed and dies having edge engaging surfaces for rolling and tucking the ends of the facing sheets into the core.
