A PROCESS FOR THE HEAT STABILIZATION OF POLYAMIDE FIBERS, BRISTLES AND FOILS WITH COPPER COMPOUND, AREOMATIC AMINES, AND ALKALI, HALIDES. THE COPPER COMPOUND AND AMINES ARE INCORPORAED IN THE STARTING MATERIALS PRIOR TO THE POLYMERIZATION. THE ALKALI HALIDES AND ANY OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE STABILIZER ARE ADDED ONLY UPON THE FORMATION OF FIBERS, BRISTLES OR FOILS, PRIOR TO STRETCHING.

1. A PROCESS FOR PREPARING A HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT POLYAMIDE CAPABLE OF AFTER-POLYMERIZATION IN AN INERT GAS ATMOSPHERE AT TEMPERTURES BELOW ITS MELTING POINT, WHICH COMPRISES POLYMERIZING W-DODECALACTAM BY HEATING UNDER EXCLUSION OF WATER AT TEMPERATURE ABOVE 300*C. IN THE PRESENCE OF A PHOSPHONIC ACID IN THE AMOUNT OF 0.05-1% BY WEIGHT CALCULATED ON THE W-DODECALACTAM.
Abstract:
A PROCESS FOR THE CONTINOUS MANUFACTURE OF FIBERFORMING POLYESTER OF COPOLYESTER FROM DICARBOXYLIC ACIDS AND GLYCOLS WHEREIN THE FORMATION OF UNDESIRABLE DIGLYCOLS IS SUPPRESSED. THE MATERIAL ARE DIRECTLY ESTERIFIED BY INTRODUCING THEM INTO A TUBULAR REACTION CONE AT 150-250* WHEREIN A CONSIDERABLE PORTION ESTERIFIES. THE PRODUCT THEN IS INTGRODUCED INTO A PRECONDENSATE OF THE SAME INGREVACUUM OR 25-100 TORR. THE WATER OF EACTION AND FREE GLYCOL IMMEDIATELY EVAPORATE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF THE VACUUM. AS SOON AS THIS REACTION PRODUCT ATTAINS A DEGREE OF POLYCONDENSATION FO 2-6, A PORTION THEREOF CONTINUOUSLY IS WITHDRAWN IN PROPORTION TO NEW ACID INTRODUCED. THE CONDENSATE WITHDRAWN THEN POLYCONDENSED IN THE CONVENTIONAL MANNER TO A FIBER-FORMING POLYESTER. IN A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT, A PART OF THE GLYCOL IS WITHHELD AND SUBJECTED TO A GLYCOLYSIS WITH THE PRECONDENSATE PRIOR TO ITS ENTRY INTO THE REACTION.

SULPHUR IS ADDED TO A POLYESTER MASS DURING PRODUCTION OR PROCESSING THEREOF. THE RESULTANT SULPHUR CONTAINING POLYESTER HAS IMPROVED TENSILE STRENGTH AND ADHERENCE TO RUBBER.
