摘要: A system for transmitting information in a well comprises a tubular string disposed in the well and having a drilling fluid flowing therethrough. A pulser is disposed in the tubular string and transmits a pulse synchronization marker comprising a chirp signal. A surface controller, acting under programmed instructions, detects the chirp signal adjusts a signal decoding technique based on the detected chirp signal.

摘要: A system for optimizing a mud-pulse telemetry system, the system including: a plurality of sensors distributed along a drill string adapted for being disposed in a borehole, each sensor configured to perform a measurement of a characteristic of at least one of mud in a column within the borehole and a mud-pulse telemetry signal propagating in the mud; and a processing unit for receiving the measurements, the processing unit comprising an algorithm to compile a data set from the measurements and to determine a parameter of the mud-pulse telemetry system using the data set to optimize the mud-pulse telemetry system. A method and a computer program product are also provided.

摘要: Methods and systems for automatically performing a sweep operation in a borehole penetrating an earth formation including conveying a drillstring through a borehole, the drillstring having one or more sensors located thereon, determining that a sweep operation should be performed based on information obtained from the one or more sensors, determining characteristics of a pill to be used for a sweep operation based on information obtained from the one or more sensors, preparing a pill in accordance with the determined characteristics, deploying the pill into the drillstring and conveying the pill through the drillstring, and monitoring the sweep operation while the pill is within the drillstring and verifying the sweep operation. At least one of the determination that a sweep operation should be performed, the determination of the pill characteristics, or the preparation of the pill is performed automatically.

The system includes a plurality of wired segments coupled together by couplers and a plurality of nodes configured to measure, process, or relay information obtained in the borehole to a surface processing system, each of the plurality of nodes comprising a local clock and being disposed at one of the couplers or between couplers. The system also includes a surface processing system coupled to a master clock and configured to determine a time offset between the master clock and the local clock of an nth node among the plurality of nodes based on a downhole generated synchronization signal.

摘要: A method and apparatus for predicting a formation parameter at a drill bit drilling a formation is disclosed. A vibration measurement is obtained at each of a plurality of depths in the borehole. A formation parameter is obtained proximate each of the plurality of depths in the borehole. A relationship is determined between the obtained vibration measurements and the measured formation parameters at the plurality of depths. A vibration measurement at a new drill bit location is obtained and the formation parameter at the new drill bit location is predicted from the vibration measurement and the determined relation. Formation type can be determined at the new drill bit location from the new vibration measurement and the determined relationship.

摘要: A method and apparatus for predicting a formation parameter at a drill bit drilling a formation is disclosed. A vibration measurement is obtained at each of a plurality of depths in the borehole. A formation parameter is obtained proximate each of the plurality of depths in the borehole. A relationship is determined between the obtained vibration measurements and the measured formation parameters at the plurality of depths. A vibration measurement at a new drill bit location is obtained and the formation parameter at the new drill bit location is predicted from the vibration measurement and the determined relation. Formation type can be determined at the new drill bit location from the new vibration measurement and the determined relationship.
