Abstract: Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture to monitor the personal safety of a user of a portable electronic device are disclosed. Example portable electronic devices disclosed herein are to adjust a threshold alert level based on event information obtained for a location associated with the portable electronic device, the threshold alert level to indicate a degree of danger to which a user of the portable electronic device is exposed. Disclosed example portable electronic devices are also to determine that the threshold alert level has been satisfied when at least a threshold number of a set of usage attributes associated with the threshold alert level are detected in a monitored set of usage attributes. Disclosed example portable electronic devices are further to actuate an output device associated with the portable electronic device when the threshold alert level is satisfied.

Example safety managers disclosed herein include processor circuitry to determine whether data collected from a remote electronic device corresponds to a first usage context profile associated with the remote electronic device, obtain a threshold alert level corresponding to the first usage context profile when the collected data corresponds to the first usage context profile, the threshold alert level to indicate a degree of danger to which a user is exposed, adjust the threshold alert level based on information obtained from a data source different from the remote electronic device, monitor usage attributes reported by the remote electronic device to determine whether the threshold alert level has been satisfied, and actuate a safety alert associated with the remote electronic device when the threshold alert level has been satisfied.

Abstract: The disclosure generally relates to autonomous or semi-autonomous driving vehicles. Specifically, an embodiment of the disclosure relates to occupancy detection algorithm to classify groups of individuals having a relationship to each other in certain environments, for example, inside a vehicle. In an exemplary embodiment, the disclosure provides an apparatus to associate one or more vehicles with one or more occupants, the apparatus including: a processing system to categorize data received from a plurality of external communication devices; a detector module configured to identify a first vehicle data and a first device data from categorized data; a proximity detector configured to communicate with the vehicle detector and the device detector; and a correlation engine to receive proximity estimate and to correlate the first device with a first occupant of the first vehicle.

The safety monitor also includes a current usage detector, a threshold alert level monitor, and a safety alert actuator. The current usage detector determines whether the portable electronic device is being used in the usage context at a current time, and, if so, obtains a corresponding threshold alert level that indicates a degree of danger to which a user of the portable electronic device is exposed. The threshold alert level monitor determines whether the threshold alert level has been satisfied, and, if so, the safety alert actuator actuates an output device of the portable electronic device.

Abstract: Technologies for smart bookmark synchronization may include a smart bookmark device, a bookmark server, and one or more client computing devices. The smart bookmark device transmits an identification of a book to the bookmark server, which determines a format of the book based on the identification. The smart bookmark device captures sensor data indicative of the current reading position of a user in the book and transmits the sensor data to the bookmark server. The sensor data may include image data of a current page in the book. The bookmark server determines bookmark data indicative of the current reading position based on the sensor data. The bookmark server transmits the bookmark data to the smart bookmark device and, in some embodiments, to the client computing devices and/or applications. The client computing devices may synchronize playback of a digital media book with the bookmark data. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
