摘要： A ferrule for electro-optic cables is formed of identical mating halves which, when assembled, provide accurate alignment of the fiber carried thereby. Each ferrule half has a mating surface with a longitudinally extending profiled groove which grips the cable and fiber and centers the fiber with respect to the ferrule. The ferrule halves are preferably permanently bonded together by well known means.

摘要： A duplex fiber optic connector assembly enables mating the fibers of a first multifiber cable with like fibers of a second cable or cables with maximum axial alignment of the respective fiber paris. An interconnect member receives cable terminating connectors in opposite sides thereof. Each connector carries the fibers of a respective cable in individual ferrules, each ferrule having limited floating mount within the respective connector. The mating pairs of ferrules are received in opposite ends of receptor members each of which has an axially profiled bore adapted to receive the respective ferrules and a profiled outer surface which allows movement about the geometric center of the receptor so as to axially align the bores of the ferrules received therein. Connectors at each end of a predetermined length of fiber optic cable provide a fiber optic extension cord, analogous to the well-known electrical extension cord, for convenient and efficient interconnection between optical signal-using equipments. Small interconnect members receive the connectors of such fiber optic extension cords to allow even wider-ranging interconnections. Wall boxes containing such interconnect members, connected to permanently installed fiber optic cables conveying optical signals from a central optical signal source, allow a user to readily access optical signals by "plugging-in" a connector therein.

The adapter (10) further comprises a latching beam mechanism (12) having forward extending latching beams (13), the latching beam mechanism (12) characterized by a wedge shaped plug stop (64) along each of the extending latching beams (13).

摘要： A connector for joining light transmitting fiber cables through a cover (14) to a transmitter and/or receiver device (3) comprises a plug connector half (6) and a retention frame (48). The plug connector half (6) comprises a plug (8) having profiled passageway (43) for receiving an optical fiber, a transceiver adapter (10) adapted to axially receive the plug (8) through the cover (14) and extending axially for aligning the plug (8) forward relative to the transmitter and/or receiver device (3). The retention frame (48) is mounted to the cover (14) and captivates the transceiver adapter (10) with play so as to permit free floating of the transceiver adapter (10) relative to the cover within the retention frame (48). The transceiver adapter (10) is an integral two-part structure comprising a transceiver shroud (11) adapted to axially receive the plug (8) and extending axially (38) for aligning the plug (8) relative to the transmitter and/or receiver device( 3), and further having a latching beam mechanism (12) having forward extending latching beams (13).

摘要： A device for pulling fiber optic cable through ducts and conduits comprises an elongated housing having a closed forward end, an open rearward end, and a central bore extending longitudinally therethrough for reception of a pre-terminated fiber optic cable including one or more ferrules terminated in corresponding ferrules which rest within the housing, the forward end being provided with grasping means, and the rearward end being adapted for mounting to a tensile load-bearing portion of the terminated end of the fiber optic cable. In a preferred embodiment, the rearward end is provided with threads for threaded engagement with a receptor nut mounted on the strain relief of a terminated fiber optic cable.

摘要： An improved electrical terminal is disclosed having a mating first end and a conductor engaging second end which is of the insulation piercing type including at least two tine members defining a conductor engaging slot therebetween. At least a portion of the conductor engaging end of the terminal is coated with a layer of insulation. As a terminal, which has the entire second end coated with insulation, is engaged with a conductor, the tines penetrate the conductor insulation and a portion of the insulation coating is stripped from the slot by the interference fit of the conductor in the slot to effect good mechanical and electrical interconnection therebetween. Also, only the tips of the tines can be coated to assure no electrical contact with any conductor they might engage. Thus the subject terminal may be used on shielded cable when it is desired to interconnect with the conductors but not with the shielding. In cases of cables having conductors on close center lines, where there might be concern about the occurrence of shorting between a terminal and an adjacent conductor, terminals having insulation coating their sides can be used.
