摘要： A rotating cable device preferably for use in a steering column assembly couples a drive member to a driven member of the assembly for rotation and without any lost motion or release of unwanted absorbed energy, which could potentially create inefficiencies in operation and undesirable noise. A rigid sheath of the device extends along a non-linear centerline and a resilient tube preferably extends through the sheath. A flexible cable of the device extends through the tube and couples between the members for rotation. The cable device enables versatility in the arrangement and orientation of the drive and driven members in a variety of different steering column and transmission shift mount applications for vehicles.

摘要： The invention provides a steering column assembly for a vehicle. The steering column assembly includes a steering column operable to adjustably support a steering wheel in the vehicle. The steering column assembly also includes a locking bracket adjacent to the steering column and moveable along a path for collapsing movement. The steering column assembly also includes a locking member supported in two-way movement by the locking bracket between a first position and a second position spaced from one another. In the first position, the locking member locks the locking bracket and the steering column member together. When the locking member is in the second position, the steering column member is moveable relative to the locking bracket. The steering column assembly also includes at least one quick release bolt engaged with the locking bracket to selectively fix the locking bracket with respect to the vehicle. The at least one quick release bolt is selectively divisible into at least two portions independently of the collapsing movement of the locking bracket along the path.

摘要： A steering column assembly for a motor vehicle includes a steering shaft, a support bracket rotatably receiving the steering shaft for rotatably supporting the steering shaft on the motor vehicle, and an anti-rotation device. The anti-rotation device is supported by the support bracket and is moveable between an engaged position and a disengaged position. In the engaged position, the anti-rotation device prevents rotation of the steering shaft relative to the support bracket. The anti-rotation device may be moved from the engaged position to the disengaged position to allow rotation of the steering shaft relative to the support bracket. Prior to assembly of the steering column assembly to the motor vehicle, the anti-rotation device may be moved to the engaged position to lock the steering column in a common rotational position. After assembly, the anti-rotation device may be moved to the disengaged position to allow rotation of the steering shaft.

An actuator is mounted to the pivot pin for concurrent rotation with the pivot pin about the pin axis and is coupled to the pawl for moving the pawl between the engaged and disengaged positions in an opposing rotational direction from the concurrent rotation of the pivot pin and the actuator.

摘要： The invention provides a method and apparatus that improves the adjustment of energy absorbing properties of the steering column of a vehicle. The method includes the step of disposing a first steering column member for axial movement along an extension path between an extended position and a retracted position relative to a second steering column member. The first steering column member is also disposed for pivoting movement along a pivot path between a tilt-up position and a tilt-down position relative to the second steering column member. The method includes the step of absorbing energy associated with relative movement between first and second steering column members along the extension path at a first rate with a first device. The first device can be any type of energy absorbing arrangement known in the art, such as an arrangement including a strap and an anvil. The method includes the step of adjusting the first rate of energy absorbed during said absorbing step with a second device. The second device adjusts the first device in response to at least one of a position of the first steering column member along the extension path and a position of the first steering column member along the pivot path. The rate of energy absorption is thus reflective of the extension of the first steering column member or the tilt position of the first steering column member. In one embodiment of the invention, the second device can adjust the first device in response to both of the extension of the first steering column member and the tilt position of the first steering column member.

摘要： A steering column assembly includes a rake adjustment mechanism, and is attached to a vehicle by a mounting bracket. A rake bracket is coupled to the mounting bracket. A column jacket is collapsible in response to an emergency event and is supported by the mounting bracket and the rake bracket, and is rotationally moveable with the rake bracket about a rake axis relative to the mounting bracket. An instrument cluster is coupled to the rake bracket for movement along with the rake bracket and the column jacket to prevent obstruction of the instrument cluster by a steering wheel upon re-positioning the steering wheel, while not restricting movement of the column jacket during collapse of the column jacket in response to the emergency event. A dynamic absorber interconnects the instrument cluster and the rake bracket to reduce vibration of the steering column assembly caused by additional weight of the instrument cluster.
