    摘要: A pair of ophthalmic lenses both containing at least two optical powers, one for near vision and one for distance vision are described, both containing in the center portion of the lens the distance optical power. In the preferred embodiment, the remainder of the lens is comprised of annular portions made up of one or more optical zones to provide the desired combined, cumulative ratio of near and distance focal length areas at each pupil diameter. The distance portion located in the center is appropriately suited to the real world situation of requiring distance vision under high illumination situations.

    摘要: A design family of contact lenses includes a central area utilized for distance vision, surrounded by multiple alternating annuli of near and distance optical powers, surrounded by a peripheral distance zone. The design can also be used in intraocular lenses (IOL). The distance optical power is constant across the design family of lenses, but the near optical power increases as a subject's presbyopia increases. The design family of contact lenses can be fitted to a patient in a standard fashion by fitting both eyes to the best distance visual acuity (VA), and obtaining near acuity from the near annuli. A modified monovision method fits the patient's dominant eye with a contact lens as described having the full prescription distance power and fitting the nondominant eye with a contact lens as described having a distance optical power between the full prescription distance optical power and the near optical power. Specifically, the nondominant eye is fitted with a contact lens as described but having a distance power between 50% and 100% of the range between the prescription near and distance optical powers, biased towards the distance optical power.

    摘要: Concentric lens designs are disclosed for astigmatic presbyopes which comprise at least one surface which has a circular central portion and a plurality of concentric annular rings with at least three separate optical powers corresponding to a prescription for a patient and corresponding to 1) a basic distance spherical prescription Rx, 2) a near add spherical prescription Rx, and 3) a spherical prescription corresponding to the full, or preferably a fraction of the, cylindrical prescription Rx. An astigmatic presbyopic prescription contains an astigmatic correction, normally in the nature of a cylindrical prescription which specifies both the cylindrical optical power and the orientation of the cylindrical axis. The cylindrical prescription is taken into account in the design of the lens, but not with a cylindrical optical surface. Instead, the present invention recognizes that the brain can effectively discriminate between separate competing images by accepting an in-focus image and rejecting an out-of-focus image. Accordingly, a portion of the lens is provided with a spherical surface corresponding to the cylindrical prescription, or more preferably a fraction of the full cylindrical prescription, and the brain is relied upon to discriminate and accept an in-focus image to compensate for the patient's astigmatism.

    摘要: Aspheric toric lens designs are disclosed which reduce the number of cylindrical axis locations required for stock keeping units in inventory by aspherizing the toric surface thereof. The present invention pertains to ophthalmic lenses, and in particular to contact lenses such as soft hydrogel contact lenses, particularly designed to fit astigmatic patients who are either non-presbyopic or presbyopic. One of the front and back surfaces of the aspheric toric lens defines a spherical surface corresponding at least to the patient's basic distance prescription Rx. The other of the front and back surfaces defines an aspheric toric curve, wherein the toric surface is constructed with aspheric radii, such that the aspheric curve desensitizes axial misalignment of the toric curve by providing an enhanced depth-of-focus. When the aspheric toric surface is on the back surface of the lens, the spherical curve on the front surface of the lens can comprise a single spherical curve corresponding to the patient's basic distance prescription Rx.     摘要: Concentric aspheric multifocal lens designs are disclosed which use a combination of an aspheric front surface, which results in aberration reduction and contrast vision enhancement, along with a concentric multifocal back surface, to produce a lens design which affords clear vision at a distance and also near without a loss in contrast which is generally typical of prior art simultaneous vision, concentric multifocal lens designs. The aspheric surface improves the modulation transfer function (MTF) of the lens eye combination which improves the focus and contrast of both distance and near images. The design form is valid for contact lenses and intraocular lenses.
