摘要： An I/O shield for an electronic assembly comprises a shielding plate having a reinforcing plate and a resilient plate attached together with a pair of side walls respectively extending from opposite edges thereof and a number of receiving slots disposed therein. The shielding plate is guided into an opening disposed in a chassis of the electronic assembly by the side walls. A number of spaced spring contacts is formed on the side walls by stamping and bending. Each spring contact comprises a base integrally formed with the side wall, a bend and a free end. The tip of the bend is located nearer to the base than to the free end. Thus, the free end will not warp or engage with notches disposed in a peripheral flange of the opening thereby facilitating removal of the I/O shield.

摘要： An electrical connector includes an insulative housing having a shielding shell made of a conductive material fitted thereto. The housing has two groups of pins separated by a central slot defined therebetween with a conductive plate received therein. The conductive plate is in electrical connection with the shielding shell. The conductive plate has two resilient fingers formed on a front edge thereof and thus engageable with a counterpart conductive plate of a mating connector. The resiliency of the fingers provides a positive engagement between the two conductive plates thereby establishing a sound electrical connection therebetween. This allows electrostatic charges on the conductive plates to be effectively removed through the shielding shell.

摘要： An I/O shield for electronic assemblies includes a shielding plate with a variety of receiving slots disposed therein and a pair of side walls extending from opposite edges thereof. The shielding plate is guided into a corresponding opening defined in a chassis of the electronic assembly by the side walls. The slots are engaged with corresponding connectors mounted to an inner main board of the electronic assembly and retain the connectors in position. A plurality of spaced spring contacts is formed on the side walls, each including two base portions integral with a surface of the side wall and an intermediate projecting portion having a planar section parallel to the side wall. Since the two base portions of each spring contact are integral with the side wall, placement and removal of the shield are thereby facilitated. Furthermore, the area of engagement between each spring contact and a peripheral flange of the opening of the chassis is increased due to the planar portion of the spring contact thereby providing enhanced shielding capabilities.

The housing comprises a first housing member and a second housing member surroundingly incorporating the first housing member. A recess is defined between the first and second housing members. A method of manufacturing the high-density connector comprises the steps of: 1) insert molding a pair of SMT contact carriers to opposite sides of the first housing member; 2) insert molding the first housing member having the two SMT contact carriers to the second housing member; 3) severing carrier plates from the two SMT contact carriers; 4) assembling the shield to the housing. The first insert molding forms a base and a crossbeam retaining mounting and mating portions of the SMT contacts with a gap defined therebetween. The base defines a plurality of openings. The second insert molding fills the openings and the gap to incorporate the base and the crossbeam to form the housing.
