    摘要: An equipment and method for inline infrared (IR) ultraviolet (UV) irradiation of recording media is disclosed. The components of the equipment include a saddle for holding a recording medium such as a disc, a conveyor that travels the saddle through a tunnel in which one or more IR and UV lamps are positioned to direct IR and UV light on the recording media traveling through the tunnel. The efficacy of the bonding of the lubricant to the recording medium by UV light is substantially enhanced by exposing the recording medium to IR light prior to exposure to UV light.

    摘要: A system and method for corrosion problems in magnetic media resulting from moisture penetrating through the carbon layer into the magnetic layer by diffusion or other methods are overcome by processing the carbon overcoat to stop and/or inhibit the moisture penetration. The process involves removing moisture channels from protective overcoats of thin film magnetic media by irradiating the protective overcoat with ultraviolet (UV) radiation in an inert hydrophobic chemical environment. Afterwards, the thin film magnetic media can be removed into ambient atmosphere where it is coated with a lubricant.

    摘要: A method of increasing the performance of a composite lubricant material when utilized as a thin film lubricant, comprising: (a) providing a substrate including a surface; (b) providing a composite lubricant comprising a mixture of at least one perfluoropolyether compound and at least one phosphite or phosphate compound; (c) applying a thin layer of the composite lubricant to the substrate surface; and (d) treating the thin layer of composite lubricant with UV radiation at a dosage and for an interval sufficient to reduce the surface tension, increase the corrosion resistance, increase the durability and reduce the stiction/friction of the thin layer of composite lubricant.
