Abstract:
Fluidic nanotube devices and methods for their use are provided wherein the flow of charged molecules through a channel is controlled by the voltage potential of a gate electrode. In at least some embodiments, a molecular transistor is provided that includes a channel having a diameter such that only one target molecule at a time may traverse the channel. The channel may be a carbon nanotube that is electrically isolated from, and in communication with, a gate electrode. Methods are provided for controlling the flow of an individual molecule through the channel and for detecting a single chemical reaction.
Abstract:
Systems and processes that incorporate teachings of the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving from a mobile device, by way of a cellular network, a request for delivery of high-bandwidth application service. A location of the mobile device can be obtained and used to determine availability of any nearby wireless packet-network services. If it is determined that a wireless packet-network service is available, a network connection between the mobile device and the wireless packet-network service can be established. The request for delivery of high-bandwidth services can then be forwarded to an application server that delivers the requested services by way of the wireless packet-network service. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Abstract:
The invention includes compositions, devices, and methods for analyzing a polymer and/or polymer unit. The polymer may be a homo- or hetero-polymer such as DNA, RNA, a polysaccharide, or a peptide. The device includes electrodes that form a tunnel gap through which the polymer can pass. The electrodes are functionalized with a reagent attached thereto, and the reagent is capable of forming a transient bond to a polymer unit. When the transient bond forms between the reagent and the unit, a detectable signal is generated and used to analyze the polymer.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a device for analyzing the composition of a heteropolymer comprising a carbon nanotube through which the heteropolymer is driven by electrophoresis. The carbon nanotube also serves as one electrode in a reading circuit. One end of the carbon nanotube is held in close proximity to a second electrode, and each end of the carbon nanotube is functionalized with flexibly-tethered chemical-recognition moieties, such that one will bind one site on the emerging polymer, and the second will bind another site in close proximity, generating an electrical signal between the two electrodes when the circuit is completed by the process of chemical recognition.

Abstract:
Extending hierarchical synchronization (sync) scopes to non-hierarchical scenarios may involve a method for synchronizing differently organized data stores comprising mapping different physical organizations to similar logical organizations and utilizing an organization-based synchronization algorithm to synchronize the differently organized stores. Also, the uniqueness constraints of the organizations may be preserved as well as the parent-child ordering constraints of the organizations.

Abstract:
For use in a power converter having an inverter coupled to an output rectifier, a post-regulator, a method of operating the same and a power converter incorporating the post-regulator or the method. In one embodiment: (1) a switching circuit, having at least one controllable switch and coupled an output of the power converter, that receives an output voltage from the power converter and produces a phase-shifted waveform therefrom and (2) a transformer, having a primary winding coupled to the switching circuit and a secondary winding coupled to the rectifier, that delivers the phase-shifted waveform to the rectifier to regulate the power converter, thereby allowing the inverter to be unregulated.
Abstract:
For use with a three-phase boost converter having a primary stage with a primary rectifier and a primary boost switch coupled between an input and output of the three-phase boost converter, an auxiliary stage, a method of reducing input current total harmonic distortion (THD) at the input of the three-phase boost converter, and a three-phase boost converter employing the auxiliary stage and method are provided. In one embodiment, the auxiliary stage includes: (1) an auxiliary rectifier coupled to the primary rectifier, (2) first, second and third auxiliary boost inductors interposed between the primary rectifier and the auxiliary rectifier and (3) an auxiliary boost switch, interposed between the auxiliary rectifier and the output, that conducts to induce corresponding phase currents through the first, second and third auxiliary boost inductors thereby reducing input current total harmonic distortion (THD) at the input of the three-phase boost converter.
Abstract:
A filter scheme for a battery power plant for supplying power to a load includes positive and negative voltage bus bars each having an input and an output, the output adapted to be connected to the load. A capacitor is connected between the bus bars adjacent to the output of power plant, and an inductor is connected to either one of the bus bars adjacent to the output of the power plant to reduce bus voltage transients.
