摘要:
A disposable absorbent garment (10) of the type having opposed waistband portions (14 ) separated by an intermediate portion (16), comprises a breathable elastomeric nonwoven fabric outer cover (12) having an absorbent structure (32) integral therewith, including a liquid-impervious baffle (36), a liquid-pervious bodyside liner (34), and an absorbent core (38) therebetween. The absorbent structure (32) preferably forms an insert attached to the outer cover (12) without restricting the stretchability thereof. The garment (10) has a generally asymmetrical hourglass profile with leg cut-out openings (18) converging together to define a narrow crotch with front (28) and rear (30) panels on either side thereof, having pairs of front (20, 22) and rear (24, 26) ear portions, respectively. Laterally-opposed pairs of rear fastener members (42, 44) and front (46, 48) fastener members extend across the rear ear portions (20, 22) and front ear portions (24, 26), respectively. Longitudinally opposed pairs (42, 46; 44, 48) of the fastener members are engagable with one another, forming substantially full-length closures from the waistband (14) to each leg opening (18) of the garment (10). Each fastener member (42, 46; 44, 48) comprises at least two spaced snap elements (50A, 50B), representing primarily fixed-point closures, separated by an abutment surface (52, 54, 56, 58) presenting a secondary load-bearing closure, such as a cohesive adhesive strip (64), for effecting and maintaining a substantially continuous closure between the primary closures formed by the snap elements (50A, 50B) when longitudinally opposed pairs (42, 46; 44, 48) of the fastener members are fastened together about the body of a wearer, providing full-length, fixed-point fastening substantially from waist to leg of the wearer, resulting in a neat, trim fit and appearance.

There is disclosed a disposable diaper in which the waistband is closed by a mechanical fastener. A second fastener means is included and positioned on the article to enable rolling or folding the garment after use and thereby secure it in a neat bundle for disposal. In the disclosed embodiments, the mechanical fastener is comprised of hook tabs at the rear waistband which engage a patch of loop material adhesively bonded on the front waistband. The second fastener means of the disclosed embodiments utilizes the tabs which engage a compatible component on the garment placed in the same half portion with the tabs. The disclosed species of the second (disposability) fastener means include: (1) tabs comprised of a hook component on one surface and loop component on the opposite surface thereof; or (2) tabs comprised of a hook component and a loop component on the outer surface in the same (rear) half of the garment; or (3) tabs comprised of a hook component and a loop component on the outer surface at the rear half of the cover in the region of the ears which is comprised of either the loop material mounted on the garment outer surface or is a non-woven material portion configured to function with the hook component and perform the secondary fastening function; or (4) tabs comprised of a hook component area and a pressure-sensitive adhesive area, the latter adhesively fastening the tabs to the rear half of the outer polymer cover sheet of the garment; or (5) tabs comprised of a hook component and transverse interlocking slots in the tabs, which link the ends of the rear waistband around the rolled garment to secure it for disposal.

In some embodiments, a nonwoven fabric includes a first web that is at least partially formed of extruded strands which include an auto-adhesive material. The nonwoven fabric is adapted to be bonded to another item that includes a similar auto-adhesive material. In other embodiments, a method of forming a nonwoven fabric includes extruding a plurality of strands that are formed of an auto-adhesive material. The method further includes routing the plurality of strands toward a moving support, depositing the plurality of strands onto the moving support, and then stabilizing the plurality of strands to form a web. In other embodiments, a fastening system includes a nonwoven fabric that has a web which is formed of a plurality of extruded strands that include an auto-adhesive material. The fastening system further includes a foam layer that has a surface with a plurality of free-standing struts that include a similar auto-adhesive material.

An article, such as a disposable diaper, which includes a refastenable mechanical fastener system for closing and opening the waistband. The fastener comprises a hook and loop system, such as a Velcro.RTM. fastener system, developed for superior performance in fastening the waistband. The hook material of the fastener is molded of a copolymer of polypropylene which has flexural modulus of 70,00-120,00 psi; shore hardness D-40 to D-80 and the hooks are tapered base to tip, alternating hook design, of 0.04-0.05 inch caliper. The hook density in the material is about 740 hooks per inch on 40 rows to the inch on base film of 0.008-0.010 inch thickness. The loop material is a raised loop fabric of polyester fiber, two bar warp knit construction, with napped surface. The fabric is polyethylene terephthalate of basis weight in the range 1.0-3.0 ounce per square yard. The hook material is preferably mounted on the ears of the garment at the rear waistband which attaches to loop material. The loop material is mounted on the front waistband in one form of construction; or is adhesively backed and carried with the hook tabs to the front waistband where it adheres, the hook material being releasable and refastenable. The hook and loop fastener has peel force in the range of about 200-1200 gram per inch of width of fastener and shear of 6.60-20.0 pounds per square inch. In another form of the invention, a separate rear waistband is bonded to the rear margin of the diaper and such waistband has lateral ear portions with tabs of hook material attached. The waistband may be of elastomeric material for snug fit about the waist of the user. There are several other embodiments of diaper construction in the disclosure.
