    摘要: A circumferential sealing arrangement is disclosed herein. The circumferential sealing arrangement includes a structure operable to rotate about an axis and having a first surface facing radially outward. The circumferential sealing arrangement also includes a static housing circumscribing the rotatable structure. The circumferential sealing arrangement also includes at least one seal element connected to the static housing and having a second surface facing radially inward. The circumferential sealing arrangement also includes a seal runner rotatable with the structure and having a third surface facing radially outward. The third surface cooperates with the second surface to form a circumferential seal between the static housing and the rotatable structure. A radial gap is defined between the first surface of the rotatable structure and a fourth surface of the seal runner facing radially inward and opposing the first surface. The circumferential sealing arrangement also includes at least one resilient member disposed in the radial gap and operable to radially compress in response to a change in size of the radial gap to limit hoop stresses being generated in the seal runner.

The circumferential sealing arrangement also includes a secondary seal element positioned between the housing and the primary seal element on a first side of the primary seal element along the axis of rotation. A second side of the primary seal element along the axis of rotation opposite the first side seals against the housing. The secondary seal element generates a biasing force along the axis of rotation urging the second side against the housing.

    摘要: A real-time approach for detecting aberrant modes of system behavior induced by abnormal and unauthorized system activities that are indicative of an intrusive, undesired access of the system. This detection methodology is based on behavioral information obtained from a suitably instrumented computer program as it is executing. The theoretical foundation for the present invention is founded on a study of the internal behavior of the software system. As a software system is executing, it expresses a set of its many functionalities as sequential events. Each of these functionalities has a characteristic set of modules that is executed to implement the functionality. These module sets execute with clearly defined and measurable execution profiles, which change as the executed functionalities change. Over time, the normal behavior of the system will be defined by the boundary of the profiles. An attempt to violate the security of the system will result in behavior that is outside the normal activity of the system and thus result in a perturbation of the system in a manner outside the scope of the normal profiles. Such violations are detected by an analysis and comparison of the profiles generated from an instrumented software system against a set of known intrusion profiles and a varying criterion level of potential new intrusion events.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for scavenging lubricant is disclosed herein. In the invention, a rotating structure is encircled within a sump housing and subjected to lubrication. The sump housing collects high-momentum lubricant flow and low-momentum lubricant flow. The interior of the sump housing is separated into a plurality of chambers with at least one dynamic seal. The at least one dynamic seal extends between the sump housing and the rotating structure to isolate the high-momentum lubricant flow from the low-momentum lubricant flow.

The entry plenum has an upstream opening operable to receive lubricant from a lubricant spray nozzle.

A lubricated structure operable to rotate can be disposed within the sump housing. The sump housing also includes an out-take for lubricant scavenging. The out-take extends across a chordal arc of the chamber. The out-take includes an upstream first portion of the outer wall diverging away from the chordal arc at a first rate. The out-take also includes a downstream second portion of the outer wall opposite the first portion. The second portion diverges away from the chordal arc toward the first portion at a second rate greater than said first rate to define a blunt wall facing the first portion for reducing the likelihood that windage will limit lubricant scavenging.
