This disclosure relates to a plastic bottle having a bottom structure of the champagne bottle type. The bottom is reinforced by radiating ribs which are circumferentially spaced and the ribs, utilizing a minimum of material, stiffen the bottom so as to prevent the domed inner section of the bottom from reverting and also greatly resist creep of the bottom under the influence of time and internal pressure. The ribs may be only across the juncture section between inner and outer sections of the bottom, or may extend entirely from the outer section across the juncture section and substantially to the domed center of the domed section. The ribs may also be upstanding and serve to function as guides for a liquid product being placed into the bottle so as to reduce turbulences and aid in expediting the filling operation.

This relates to the heating of polyethylene terephthalate by way of RF energy. It has been found that if polyethylene terephthalate articles are passed through a radio frequency energy field, the molecules thereof will become excited and rapid heating will result. This heating is particularly useful in the heating of preforms prior to the blow molding thereof and by varying the configuration and relationship of electrodes, controlled heating of the preforms may be effected with it being possible to have a controlled temperature differential along the length of the preform or other article so heated.

This disclosure relates to improvements in the cross section of a bottom end of a plastic bottle suitable for packaging liquids under internal pressures. The bottom end is primarily one which includes a generally hemispherical bottom wall having projecting therefrom in circumferentially spaced relation hollow legs terminating in supporting feet. The bottom end is stiffened against creep of the plastic material over a period of time under the influence of the internal pressure by changing the configuration of the bottom wall from that of a hemisphere to one which includes a configuration of straight line sections and curved line sections when viewed in radial cross section along the axis of the bottle.

A plurality of hollow convex ribs, distributed in a symmetrical array, interrupt the outer surface of the concavity and merge smoothly therewith, each rib extending longitudinally in the direction of the heel and downwardly from an inner portion of the concavity. This relates to a blow molding system wherein a plurality of preforms are simultaneously blow molded within a mold set with the preforms being carried by one or more carriers which move first to a loading station to receive preforms, then through an oven to heat the preforms, then into a mold set wherein the plural preforms are simultaneously blow molded, then to an ejection station where the blow molded articles are discharged, and finally back to the loading station. There are two mold sets which are part of a clamp which operates sequentially to open and close each mold set with one mold set being closed as the other mold set is being opened. The carriers may travel either in a single continuous path for sequentially positioning at first one mold set and then the other, or there may be two continuous circuits for the carriers in which event the two mold sets of the clamp may be different.
