    Abstract: A peristaltic pump device includes a resilient tube secured in a pump housing with a rotor having rollers squeezing against the resilient tube facilitating the pumping of a liquid or gas. A cylindrical rotor rotates in a bore provided in the pump housing. The rotor has steps in which rollers freely slide and rotate. As the rotor rotates, the rollers also rotate and are slidingly held in the rotor step thereby frictional contact with the compressing resilient tube and consequently the liquid or gas within goes out of the resilient tube. The pump is inexpensive to build, reliable, and by design promotes the long life of the resilient tube as compared to existing roller type peristaltic pumps.

    Abstract: The present concept a wet abrasive blasting system includes a splitter manifold receiving compressed air from a source of compressed air. The splitter manifold includes at least two passageways and also a manifold pre-nozzle associated with each passageway respectively. The splitter manifold communicates air through the passageways to corresponding air conduits which feed compressed air to at least two wet blasters respectively wherein the blasters each include an exit nozzle which are substantially the same or smaller in size than the pre-nozzles.

    Abstract: Procedures are described which use solvents to increase the topical insecticidal activity of toxic insect peptides.     Abstract: A rotary pump device includes a stator chamber with a cylindrical inner wall having intake and exhaust ports therein, and a two-part, expanding rotor eccentrically mounted for rotation within the chamber. The rotor comprises two crescentoid bodies with end surfaces in sliding, mating contact. A spring rod is placed between the inner rotor body surfaces to maintain rotor contact points in continuous wiping contact with the chamber wall. A full intake/exhaust cycle occurs every 180° of rotor travel.

    Abstract: A neurodegenerative disease or condition is diagnosed in a subject by obtaining a sample of cerebral spinal fluid from the subject and assaying the sample by an assay method that detects the presence of at least one antiphospholipid autoantibody in the sample, wherein an elevated level of at least one antiphospholipid autoantibody in the sample of cerebral spinal fluid correlates with a neurodegenerative disease or condition in the subject. The neurodegenerative disease or condition may also be diagnosed by assaying a sample of cerebral spinal fluid to detect nitrosylated antibodies, wherein an elevated level of nitrosylated antibodies correlates with a neurodegenerative disease or condition in said subject. A neurodegenerative disease or condition is also detected or diagnosed by assaying a first sample of cerebral spinal fluid from the subject to determine a level of at least one autoantibody having a selected specificity, treating a second sample of cerebral spinal fluid with an oxidizing agent and assaying the oxidized second sample to determine a level the at least autoantibody having the selected specificity, and comparing the level of the at least one autoantibody in the first sample with the level of the at least one autoantibody in the oxidized second sample, wherein a lack of increase in the level of the at least one autoantibody in the oxidized second sample as compared to the level of the at least one autoantibody in the first sample correlates with a neurodegenerative disease or condition in said subject.

    Abstract: Discloses methods to perform magnetic testing of tensioning elements in a pre-stressed concrete cylinder, such as a pipe or water reservoir and testing apparatus. The apparatus includes magnetic flux production means and detector means disposed proximal to a surface of the cylinder in a plane in common with the magnetic flux production means that is orthogonal to an axis of the cylinder. The apparatus operates over a range of low frequency signals, for example, between 20 and 300 hertz or a pulse.     Abstract: The amount of electrically conductive material in the bottom floor lining of a conventional aluminum reduction cell is reduced by using a non-conductive lining material in its place. The non-conductive material separates the remaining electrically conductive regions from the sidewall linings of the cell and preferably confines the electrically conductive material to the "anode shadow" region of the cell floor. The non-conductive material preferably comprises a particulate alumina mixture made up of large shapes which firmly compact together and smaller particles which fill the remaining voids. Optionally, the mixture may be bonded together with amorphous alumina, in which case the mixture can also be used for cell wall linings. The linings can be used in reduction cells of conventional design and reduces undesirable magnetohydrodynamic effects as well as pollution hazards caused by conventional carbonaceous cell linings.

    Abstract: A linear brake for a bicycle comprises a pair of pivot mounts, each of which is mounted on a bicycle member laterally of a wheel rim, one on either side of the wheel. A brake arm is pivotally mounted in levered relation on each pivot mount below adjacent and biased away from the wheel rim. A brake shoe is affixed to each brake arm upper end. A control cable is affixed to a control member above the wheel with the control member being connected to the center of a yoke cable. The yoke cable is affixed to the lower end of each brake arm with yoke cable passed partway around the annular component on each pivot mount.
