    摘要: An electrical connector and method for mechanically supporting the main body of a connector module to a daughterboard Printed Circuit Board (PCB) in a manner that also allows attachment of a zero-footprint board stiffener thereby eliminating the need to take up valuable real estate on the PCB. The stiffener rail, by attaching to the cover, has the desired feature of not requiring typical board stiffener mounting holes located on the PCB, as is he case with a typical edge mounted connector. This feature conserves space on the PCB and eliminates trace routing problems caused by these typical stiffener mounting holes. In addition to the board stiffener not requiring mounting holes on the PCB, this improvement simultaneously aligns the connector modules to each other creating a one piece "mono-block" like effect while at the same time acting to stiffen the PCB thereby reducing any PCB bowing. Alternatively, an electrical connector and method for mechanically supporting the main body of a connector module to a daughterboard Printed Circuit Board (PCB) in a manner that also allows attachment of a minimum-footprint board stiffener thereby eliminating the need to take up valuable real estate on the PCB.

    摘要: A header assembly is mounted to a backplane and receives a complementary electrical connector. The header assembly has an insulating shroud having a base with backplane and connector sides and a primary edge, and differential signal pin pairs, ground shields, and ground pins mounted to the base. The signal pin pairs are arranged into rows extending in a first direction along the base and along the base primary edge, and columns extending in a perpendicular second direction along the base. The signal pins in each pair are adjacently arranged into a sub-row extending in the first direction. Each signal pin in a pair has an inner side facing the other pin in the pair, an opposing outer side, and primary and non-primary sides facing toward and away from the base primary edge, respectively. One ground shield is associated with each signal pin. Each ground shield extends through the base between the connector side and the backplane side, and includes first and second attached wings arranged at right angles. The first wing extends along the first direction adjacent and along either the primary or non-primary side of the associated signal pin, and the second wing extends along the second direction adjacent and along the outer side of the associated signal pin. The ground shields in combination substantially electromagnetically isolate within the base each signal pin pair from all others. Each ground pin electrically contacts at least one ground shield at the second wing thereof.

    摘要: A pair of mating connectors includes a receptacle having an insulative housing and at least one conductive receptacle contact with a pair of spaced walls forming a plug contact receiving space. The plug connector has an insulative housing and at least one conductive contact having a pair of spaced walls which converge to form a projection engageable in the plug receiving space of the receptacle contact. In each case, the spaced walls are joined by a bridging structure that unites the walls. The plug and receptacle contacts are retained in the respective housings by engagement of opposed lateral edge portions of the contacts with the housings in a manner to enhance heat dissipation by convection by maintaining substantial portions of the contacts spaced from the housing walls and from each other. The bridging structure may include a retention element for engaging respective connector housings to retain the contact in the housings. The open structure of both the receptacle and plug contacts enhances heat dissipation and allows flexibility in achieving desired contact normal forces. The contact construction is especially useful for electronic power connectors.

    摘要: A connector for connecting electrical conductor areas of flexible circuits with associated conductor pads of an edge connector portion of a circuit board, comprising a connector housing having a circuit board opening sized to at least partially accommodate the edge connector portion, and a further opening allowing passage of the flexible circuits into an interior cavity of the connector housing. A first spring and second spring each have a resilient arched feature for supporting one of the flexible circuits to resiliently bias an electrical conductor area of the associated flexible circuit into electrical contact with associated conductor pads when the connector engages the edge connector portion. The electrical conductor areas of the flexible circuits face each other. At least one of the springs is bent so as to have a first L shaped portion and a second L shaped portion at an end thereof, with the second L shaped portion being oriented approximately 90 degrees offset to the first L shaped portion, and one end of the first L shaped portion contacting one end of the second L shaped portion. The springs resiliently urge the flexible circuits to provide electrical contact with the conductor pads of the edge connector portion when the connector is attached at a desired location to the circuit board.

The cartridge can include a two part lid structure, including a lid portion for permanent attachment to the housing, and a cover portion having a closed position for covering at least one fill port in the lid structure, the cover portion movable to allow access to the at least one fill port.

A modularity connection scheme is used in which the connector comprises several assemblies. An exemplary connector comprises a first contact assembly, a second contact assembly, and a housing. The internal components of the connector consist of the first contact assembly and the second contact assembly. The first contact assembly is preferably a power contact assembly and comprises a pair of flexible contacts having contact areas. The second assembly is preferably an auxiliary contact assembly and comprises a flexible contact having contact area. The first assembly and the second assembly are inserted into the housing, and are thereby trapped by the housing surfaces to form the connector.
