    摘要: The orange, water-insoluble pigments monascorubrin and rubropunctatin elaborated by Monascus species can be converted to high purity red, water-soluble pigments by reaction with stoichiometric quantities of organic materials bearing a primary amine functionality. These pigments are suitable as colorants for a broad variety of edible formulations, especially those intended for human consumption, and often serve as suitable replacements for FD&C Red No. 2 and Red No. 4.

    摘要: Crystalline microporous rare earth silicates are provided. These microporous compositions have a three dimensional framework structure of at least silicon tetrahedral oxide units and at least one M oxide unit. M is a rare earth element. Optionally, the microporous compositions may contain as part of the framework an M′ element having a valence of +2, +3, +4 or +5 such as zinc (+2), iron (+3), zirconium (+4) and tantalum (+5). The composition is represented by the empirical formula: An(M1−zM′z)wSi1−yGeyOx where A is a cation such as sodium and “n”, “z”, “w”, “y” and “x” are the mole fractions of the various elements.

    摘要: A process is presented for the continuous oxidation of alditols to aldoses accompanied by under 20 weight percent of aldonic and/or alduronic acids relative to the aldoses that are formed. The use of zerovalent platinum on a support such as theta-alumina and at superatmospheric oxygen partial pressures up to about 1,000 pounds per square inch is partially successful in affording good conversion of alditols with relatively low aldonic and/or alduronic acid formation.
