Abstract: Techniques are described for dynamically computing a segment routing policy for a segment routing for traffic engineering (SR-TE) path. For example, in a discontinuous SR network in which SR islands (e.g., groups of neighboring routers that are enabled for segment routing) are separated by one or more routers not enabled for segment routing, instead of returning a failure because one or more routers along a path are not enabled for SR, an ingress router may generate an SR-TE operations, administrations, and management (OAM) Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) traceroute packet send the packet to a first border router of the RSVP-enabled devices along a computed path to trigger the creation of a resource reservation Label Switched Path (LSP) through the RSVP-enabled devices. In this way, segment routed LSP may be established to tunnel through the resource reservation LSP for a SR-TE path used in an SR-TE policy.

Abstract: In some examples, a method includes receiving, by a first ingress network device of a network, a source tree join route message from an egress network device of the network, the source tree join route message specifying a multicast source and a multicast group, and in response to receiving, by the first ingress network device, a source active auto-discovery route message from a second ingress network device of the network indicating that the second ingress network device has switched from using a shared multicast tree to using a shortest path tree to deliver multicast traffic from the multicast source, electing one of the first ingress network device or the second ingress network device as a single active forwarder for forwarding the multicast traffic received from the multicast source for the multicast group.

Abstract: A first device may receive a traffic flow to be multicasted to at least two of a set of second devices. The first device may provide first messages to the set of second devices identifying the traffic flow. The first device may identify a set of interested second devices, of the set of second devices, based on respective second messages that are received from the set of interested second devices based on the first messages. The first device may determine whether a quantity of the set of interested second devices satisfies a threshold. The first device may selectively provide the traffic flow to the set of interested second devices, using a first type of multicast distribution tree or a second type of multicast distribution tree, based on whether the quantity satisfies the threshold.
