摘要: A radio frequency receiver 30, 32, includes a first component block 12, 16, 18, 20; a second compensating component block 22, 22a-22b, 34; and control circuitry 26 operable for controlling the state (e.g., load, bias, gain) of the first component block. When the control circuitry 26 causes a change in the state of the first component block that is expected to induce a DC offset in a signal, the control circuitry 26 changes the state of the second component block to compensate for an estimate of the DC offset. Preferably, the second component block is a filter 22, 22a-22b, 34, that temporarily changes from a nominal cutoff frequency to an elevated cutoff frequency so that voltage will settle quickly and accurately at an estimated voltage, the estimated voltage being predetermined and based on the state change to the first component block. A method is also described for practicing the invention.

摘要: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for operating a RF receiver. The method executes, during operation of the RF receiver, by periodically determining existing RF receiver operational conditions; determining RF receiver performance requirements based at least in part on the determined existing RF receiver operational conditions; and by allocating power consumption between RF receiver functional blocks in accordance with the determined RF receiver performance requirements and in accordance with a behavior model of at least one of the RF receiver as a whole and individual functional blocks of the RF receiver. The method may also monitor the resulting RF receiver signal quality to determine if allocation of power consumption has resulted in an optimum allocation of the power consumption.

摘要: Disclosed is apparatus for operating with an RC filter (26, 26A), and a corresponding method. The apparatus includes circuitry (32) for use in measuring an actual value of at least one filter component and a controller (34), coupled to the measurement circuitry, for determining at least one adaptive filter (36, 46) coefficient using the measured actual value to so as to compensate for a deviation of at least one filter component value from an ideal value. Where the filter is embodied as an RC network, the circuitry measures an actual value of both a resistor and a capacitor, and the controller uses the measured actual value of the capacitor when determining the value of a resistor.

摘要: A CDMA system transmits from a base station to a plurality of mobile stations or from mobile station to base station on a shared frequency band, each mobile station's data being spread by a different spreading code chosen from a set of orthogonal codes. Each receiver in base station or mobile station correlates for its intended data by despreading the signal using its particular one of the orthogonal codes. Under certain transmission delays, the effects of orthogonality may diminish and another mobile station's signal may cross-correlate with a mobile station's signal. If not all of the orthogonal codes are in use, the present invention determines another selection of orthogonal codes that yields lower cross-correlation under current delay conditions.

摘要: The invention relates to optimizing efficiency of a power amplifier of a transmitter. In a solution according to the invention a detected envelope (306) of an input signal of the power amplifier is filtered with a non-linear filter (307) that substantially preserves a rise time of a peak in a waveform of the envelope but lengthens a temporal duration of the peak. A filtered envelope is used as an input quantity (308) for a control system that controls a supply voltage of the power amplifier. For the control system it is easier to react to peaks of the filtered envelope than to the peaks of the envelope because the temporal duration of the peaks of the filtered envelope is longer than that of the peaks of the envelope.

摘要: An RF transceiver includes an Envelope Restoration (ER) transmitter (TX) and a receiver (RX). A method includes providing the TX with a programmable delay element in at least one of an AM path and a PM path; making an RF connection between an output of the TX and an input of the RX; and when receiving a signal through the RF connection, determining a delay value for use in programming the programmable delay element. The method includes measuring an effect on a parameter of a delay mismatch between the AM path and the PM path for use in determining the delay value. Adjacent Channel Leakage Ratio (ACLR); Own-Channel Power (OCP) or Bit Error Ratio (BER) may be measured in this regard. When measuring ACLR, delay is adjusted to minimize ACLR; when measuring OCP, delay is adjusted to maximize OCP; and when measuring BER, delay is adjusted to minimize BER.
