The swash plate type variable displacement compressor includes a rotary shaft, a swash plate, a plurality of pistons, a first rotor, a second rotor, a solenoid and a cone clutch. The second rotor transmits the rotation of the first rotor to the swash plate. The solenoid produces electromagnetic force that acts on the first rotor or the second rotor so that the first rotor and the second rotor move toward each other. The cone clutch is engageable by energization of the solenoid. The cone clutch has a male cone portion and a female cone portion. The male cone portion has a conical surface provided on one of the first rotor and the second rotor. The female cone portion has a conical surface provided on the other. The conical surface of the female cone portion is connectable to and disconnectable from the conical surface of the male cone portion.

A swash plate type variable displacement compressor includes a collection and supply mechanism. The collection and supply mechanism has collection passages, supply passages, an annular space, an inlet port, and an outlet port. The inlet port is communicable with a working collection passage of the collection passages. The outlet port is communicable with a working supply passage of the supply passages. When the inclination angle of the swash plate is maximum, residual refrigerant gas in a compression chamber of collection phase is collected through the working collection passage and the collected refrigerant gas is supplied to a compression chamber of supply phase. On the other hand, when the inclination angle is less than the maximum, residual refrigerant gas is supplied no more into the supply-phase compression chamber.

A double-headed piston type swash plate compressor has a first abutting portion provided between a first housing member and a first cylinder block and a second abutting portion provided between a second housing member and a second cylinder block. The first abutting portion is located inside a first circumcircle of the group of first cylinder bores and causes the first housing member and the first cylinder block to make metal-to-metal contact. The second abutting portion is located inside a second circumcircle of the group of second cylinder bores and causes the second housing member and the second cylinder block to make metal-to-metal contact.

A compressor has therein a suction chamber into which refrigerant gas is introduced, a compression chamber in which the refrigerant gas in the suction chamber is introduced and compressed, and a discharge chamber into which the compressed refrigerant gas is discharged from the compression chamber. The suction chamber and the discharge chamber are formed adjacent to each other while being separated by a partition wall. At least one surface of the partition wall is provided with a thermal insulator which is formed by curing a thermal insulation coating composition. The thermal insulator includes hollow beads and one or more binder resin selected from the group consisting of epoxy resin, polyamide-imide resin, phenolic resin, and polyimide resin.

A displacement control valve includes an electromagnetic solenoid, a drive force transmitting body actuated, and a pressure sensitive portion having a pressure sensitive body that selectively extends and contracts in the movement direction of the drive force transmitting body in correspondence with pressure in a pressure sensitive chamber. A first valve body is arranged in the pressure sensitive body to adjust the cross-sectional area of an outlet passage. A second valve body is connected to the drive force transmitting body to adjust the cross-sectional area of a supply passage. The pressure sensitive body is movable in the movement direction of the drive force transmitting body in the pressure sensitive chamber. The pressure sensitive chamber is configured to communicate with the control pressure chamber. The pressure sensitive body is urged by the pressure in the control pressure chamber in the direction in which the first valve body closes.
