Abstract: Disclosed is a method, and a system, for accomplishing the in situ formation of a gel in an interdental space. This is useful for the interdental application of one or more dental care agents, such as antimicrobial agents or other anti-plaque agents. The invention makes use of a two component system comprising a gelable liquid and a liquid gelling agent capable of bringing about gelation of the liquid. The system of the invention is arranged such that first the gelable, typically viscous, liquid can be applied, and then the liquid gelling agent is forced, e.g. jetted, into the applied gelable liquid. The system is designed such as to prevent the gelling agent and the gelable liquid to come into contact with each other before both have been applied. The system is configured to allow the gelable liquid to be applied prior to the gelling agent.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for the delivery, into interdental spaces, of oral care active agents contained in particles. The particles are made of one or more superabsorbent polymers (SAP), and are of size generally small enough to be easily applied into an interdental space. To this end, the particles typically have a length of below 1.5 mm. By virtue of the SAP's ability of absorbing several times its own weight in water, the particles will swell once in contact with saliva. As a result, the volume of the particles as applied in between teeth increases by at least eight times, thereby effectively making the particles larger than the average interdental gap size. The particles, once swollen, are thus held more firmly between the walls of the interdental space, thus preventing them from being easily washed away.

Abstract: A powder delivery nozzle (12) for a personal care appliance (10) comprises a body (28), guidance tip (38), powder chamber (50), and flexible membrane (56). The body (28) includes an air-liquid channel (30) for delivery of air and/or liquid from a proximal end to a distal end thereof. The guidance tip (38), located at the distal end of the body (28), includes an orifice (40) coupled to the air-liquid channel (30) and is configured to expel a pulse of air and/or liquid. The powder chamber (50) is configured for storing a powder (52) and having an air intake port (42) and a powder outlet port (44). The flexible membrane (56) is disposed between the powder chamber (50) and the air-liquid channel (30). Responsive to delivery of a pulse of air and/or liquid via the air-liquid channel (30), a pulse of pressure is applied to the flexible membrane (56) for actuating a release of powder expelled from the powder chamber (50) via the powder outlet port (44). A method and personal care appliance are also disclosed.

The electrode system is adapted so as to provide an electrical potential difference of 1.5 to 10 Volt between the first and second electrodes.

Abstract: A personal care device (12) comprising an RF signal generator (32) for generating RF-frequency electromagnetic emissions for a cleaning or treatment function. The RF emissions may be output from a set of two or more RF electrodes (22) (e.g. electrodes) upon stimulation with an RF drive signal in a frequency range from 3 kHz to 30 GHz from an RF signal generator. The device further includes a controller (34) for detect a degraded functional state of the RF electrodes (22) via monitoring changes or variations in one or more electrical characteristics of the RF signal generator (32), e.g. drift in one or more electrical characteristics from reference factory levels, or sudden changes in the characteristics, indicating a short-circuit. A response action can be generated based on the electrical characteristics meeting pre-defined criteria indicative of a certain degraded functional status, for example generating a sensory alert for a user or data output, or performing remedial action such as deactivating sensed defective or worn electrodes.
