An image forming apparatus includes an apparatus main body, a sheet storage cassette, a sheet feed unit, a first detection sensor having a first detector for detecting the presence/absence of sheets stacked on a sheet stacking plate, a second detection sensor having a second detector for detecting the position of the top face of the sheets stacked on the sheet stacking plate, a cassette detection sensor, a driving device, and a controller. The sheet feed unit includes a first actuator for switching detection states of the first detection sensor and a second actuator for switching detection states of the second detection sensor. The controller determines the mounting state of the sheet feed unit based on the detection state of the first and second detection sensors.

A toner container includes a second lever. A toner supply portion includes a second actuating portion that, during a process in which the toner container is attached to the toner supply portion, switches the second lever from a third position to a fourth position. The waste toner collecting portion includes a third actuating portion and a stopper member. The third actuating portion, during the toner container attachment process, acts on the second lever disposed at the third position and prohibits an attachment of the toner container, and acts on the second lever disposed at the fourth position and permits an attachment of the toner container. The stopper member is prohibits an attachment of the toner container in a state of having been attached to a first attachment position, and permits the attachment in a state of having been attached to a second attachment position.

A sheet storage cassette includes a cassette base, a sheet stacking plate, a lift portion, and a pair of width adjustment cursors. At least one of the width adjustment cursors has an opposing surface facing a side edge of sheets, an opening formed in the opposing surface, a restriction member, a swing support shaft, and a first biasing member. The restriction member has an arm portion, a restriction portion selectively located at a first position where the restriction portion is retracted in an inner side of the opposing surface and a second position where the restriction portion projects from the opening, and a pressed portion extending to face an under surface of the sheet stacking plate. The swing support shaft swingably supports the arm portion of the restriction member. The first biasing member biases the restriction member in a direction of the second position.

A first locking portion restricts displacement of a portion of a first exterior member that is proximate to a second edge portion in a direction away from a body portion. An elastic member supports the first exterior member at a position proximate to the second edge portion. The elastic member retains the first exterior member at a first position where the first edge portion is overlapped with the inner side of the adjacent second exterior member, and is elastically deformed until the first exterior member is displaced from the first position to a second position where the first edge portion is not overlapped with the second exterior member.

An image forming apparatus including: a printing unit; a bottle which is rotationally driven in a predetermined rotation direction, whereby a waste developer conveyed from the printing unit to an opening is accommodated inside and the waste developer inside is conveyed to a second end side in a longitudinal direction; and a capacitive sensor having a first detection electrode and a first ground electrode arranged in parallel, where a first detection surface of an electrostatic capacitance formed by the first detection electrode and the first ground electrode is arranged to directly face a portion of an outer peripheral surface of the bottle which is positioned obliquely upward with respect to a center line of rotation of the bottle in a region which moves from a bottom to a top when the bottle rotates in the predetermined rotation direction.
