Abstract: A transfer unit includes a first roller, a second roller, a first bearing member, a second bearing member, a roller holder, a first urging member, a second urging member, a first switching cam, a second switching cam, and a driving mechanism. The first and second switching cams have first and second guide holes with which first and second engaging portions formed on the first and second bearing members engage respectively. By rotating the roller holder, one of the first and second rollers is arranged opposite an image carrying member and, by rotating the first and second switching cams to change engaging positions of the first and second engaging portions respectively, the first or second roller is arranged either at a reference position at which it is kept in pressed contact with the image carrying member or at a released position.

Abstract: A transfer unit includes, as transfer rollers, first and second rollers of which the second has an elastic layer larger in an axial direction than the first, first and second bearing members, a roller holder, first and second urging members, a switching cam, a driving mechanism, and a first pre-transfer guide. By rotating the roller holder, the first or second roller is arranged opposite an image carrier and, by rotating the switching cam, the first or second roller arranged opposite the image carrier is arranged selectively either at a reference position where the first or second roller is in pressed contact with the image carrier or at a released position where the first or second roller lies away from the image carrier. With the first or second roller arranged at the reference position, the first pre-transfer guide is arranged at a first guide position.

Abstract: An electrical connector of an image forming apparatus exposes outward from a bottom surface of the image forming apparatus. An electrical connector of a sheet feeder protrudes from a top surface of the sheet feeder. The sheet feeder has a slider configured to be horizontally movable, while holding the electrical connector of the sheet feeder, between a connecting position at which the electrical connectors of the sheet feeder and image forming apparatus are connected and a disconnecting position at which the electrical connectors are disconnected. A locking member having a locking engaged part is fixed to the image forming apparatus. When the slider is moved to the connecting position, a locking engaging part of the slider engages the locking engaged part of the locking member so that the locking member and the slider are locked such that they cannot be separated vertically from each other.

Abstract: A fixing device includes a fixing member, a pressing member, a cover and a cleaning device. The fixing member is configured to heat a toner on a medium while rotating. The pressing member is configured to form a pressing area with the fixing member while rotating and to press the toner on the medium passing through the pressing area. The cover is configured to be moved in one direction in an opening and closing direction to form a part of a conveying path for the medium and to be moved in the other direction in the opening and closing direction to open the part of the conveying path. The cleaning device is provided in the cover and configured to bring a cleaning member into contact with a surface of the fixing member in a state where the cover is moved in the one direction and to clean the surface.

Abstract: An image forming device includes: a secondary transfer roller configured to secondarily transfer a toner image transferred to an intermediate transfer belt, to a transfer paper; separating plates; and a power supply circuit configured to apply bias voltages to the separating plates. The separating plates are configured to separate the transfer paper from the intermediate transfer belt when the bias voltages are applied to the separating plates. The separating plates include two or more separating plates installed along a direction perpendicular to the transfer paper conveying direction. The bias voltages are applied to the separating plates independently of each other depending on a toner amount distribution of the toner image transferred to the transfer paper, in the direction perpendicular to the transfer paper conveying direction.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion, an image input portion, a transfer unit, a transfer voltage power supply, and a control portion. The transfer unit includes a transfer roller having a metal shaft and an elastic layer laid around an outer circumferential face of the metal shaft to form a transfer nip by keeping the elastic layer in pressed contact with an image carrying member, and transfers a toner image formed on the image carrying member to a recording medium as it passes through the transfer nip. The transfer unit includes, as the transfer roller, a first roller, and a second roller having a larger axial-size elastic layer compared to the first roller. The control portion arranges the first or second roller opposite the image carrying member according to width-direction sizes of the recording medium and image data fed to the image input portion.

Abstract: A roller support mechanism supports a rotary shaft of a second roller disposed in parallel with a first roller. The roller support mechanism includes a support frame, a cover member, a bearing member, and an urging member. The support frame is made of sheet metal and has a support groove extending in a direction away from the first roller and receiving the rotary shaft. The cover member is made of sheet metal and is attached to the support groove to cover a pair of side edge sections facing each other across the support groove.
