摘要: The invention provides a more effective optical brightener composition for coating paper substrates. The invention includes an optical brightening agent (OBA) and a glycerol based polymer. This combination results in a composition that provides a surprisingly large whitening effect and does not degrade the shade of the paper. As a result extremely high degrees of whiteness can be achieved without being frustrated by the greening effect.

摘要: Oxidative compositions and processes that preserve and enhance the brightness and improve color of pulp or paper when applied during different stages of the papermaking process are identified. The oxidative composition and method maintains and/or enhances brightness, prevents yellowing, and enhances the performance of paper products. Used in combination with optical brighteners and/or chelants the oxidative agents produce a synergistic effect not previously identified in the paper process.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method for producing a print medium with enhanced whiteness and print quality. The method comprises applying a surface treatment composition of a general formula Cx(A)y(OH)z(SiO2)kSm where C is a cation, A is an anion, and S is a moiety that provides a surface charge selected from surface modifiers, stabilizing agents, and combinations thereof. A facet of the enhanced print quality includes, for example, improved inkjet printing characteristics selected from print density of a printed ink on the print medium, line growth of a printed ink on the print medium, bleed of a printed ink on the print medium, edge roughness of a printed ink on the print medium, mottle of a printed ink on the print medium, wicking of a printed ink on the print medium, show though of a printed ink through the print medium, and any combination of the foregoing.

摘要: Phosphor-containing panels or screens have improved resistance to yellowing and image defects by the incorporation of a primary or secondary amine having a pKa of 8.5 or more and a molecular weight of less than 10,000 daltons into the phosphor layer or an overcoat layer. A peroxide scavenger can also be present to further improve stability of the phosphor panel. The phosphors are preferably storage phosphors containing iodine. This phosphor panels can be prepared using non-peroxide-generating organic solvents for further stabilization.

摘要: A method of preparing a stable dispersion of flocculated filler particles for use in papermaking processes comprises use of microparticle prior to, simultaneous to, and/or after addition of a first flocculating agent to an aqueous dispersion of filler particles, followed by addition of a second flocculating agent to the dispersion and further optional shearing of the resultant filler flocs to the desired particle size resulting in shear resistant filler flocs with a defined and controllable size distribution. In addition, a neutralizing coagulant can be added to the dispersion to partially or completely neutralize the charge of the filler before the microparticle and/or the first flocculating agent is added.
