Disclosed is a permanent magnet which is suitable for use for a field system of an electric motor or the like and which is constituted by a single piece of magnetic material in which S and N poles are alternately continuously formed through non-magnetic flux regions or weak magnetic flux regions interposed therebetween, and further disclosed is a magnetization apparatus for magnetizing such a permanent magnet. The magnetization apparatus comprises a first magnetic flux generation unit provided on one surface of a single piece of magnetic material for generating N-pole magnetic flux, a second magnetic flux generation unit provided adjacently to the first magnetic flux generation unit on the one surface for generating S-pole magnetic flux, and a third magnetic flux generation unit provided between the first and second magnetic flux generation unit on the one surface for passing therethrough part of magnetic flux generated by the first and second magnetic flux generation unit and for generating magnetic flux for canceling the magnetic flux passing through the third magnetic flux generation unit, whereby N and S poles are formed in domains of an object to be magnetized opposite to the first and second magnetic flux generation units and non-magnetic flux regions or weak magnetic flux regions are formed in domains of the object to be magnetized opposite to the third magnetic flux generation unit.

In the system, the trigger voltage supplied by the trigger voltage supplying means is controlled depending on the variation in the resistance value of the automatically variable resistance means, and the firing angle of the semiconductor element is retarded in response to an increase in the detected motor voltage and advanced in response to a decrease in the detected motor voltage.

A motor speed control apparatus for an electrically-driven sewing machine capable of effecting single stitch comprises a main motor circuit for supplying a motor current to a motor from an AC power supply through a main switch and a semiconductor element with a controlled electrode, a first control means for controlling the semiconductor element in order to effect normal operation, a controller adapted to change between its first and second state so as to control the speed of the motor continuously when the first control means is energized, a second control means for controlling the semiconductor element for effecting single stitch, and a change-over means for changing over the operation between the first and second control means. The second control means includes means for setting the trigger voltage for conducting the semiconductor element, a switching element coupled with the trigger-voltage setting means, a bias means for energizing the switching element, and a charge-discharge circuit. The bias means has a needle position detector means for detecting the position of a needle bar. The bias means supplies the switching element with a first bias sufficient to turn the switching element on when the needle position detector means detects the absence of the needle bar at the predetermined position, and supplies the switching element with a second bias insufficient to turn the switching element on when the needle position detector means detects the fact that the needle bar is at the predetermined position. The charge-discharge circuit renders the bias means in such a state as to supply an insufficient bias to turn the switching element on for a predetermined period of time after the time point at which the controller is set in the states between the second states and the predetermined state between the first and second states, which the conduction of the switching means renders the trigger voltage setting means ineffective.

The speed control circuit arrangement comprises a pulse transformer which is connected at the secondary winding to the control electrode of the AC controlled rectifier element and one of two main electrodes of the controlled rectifier element and supplies a trigger pulse to the control electrode, a variable resistor for adjusting the rotational speed of the motor, a first capacitor connected at one end through the variable resistor to the other main electrode and at the other end to one end of an AC power source, a pulse generating element connected across said first capacitor with the primary winding of the pulse transformer intervening therebetween, and a first resistor connected at one end to the one main electrode and at the other end to the other end of the AC power source through the first capacitor. With such a construction, an inductive voltage regenerated in the armature of the motor (hereinafter referred to as a flash voltage) is effectively used to perform a stable operation of the AC commutator motor at a low speed.

A control system for a motor is disclosed in which the position of a magnetic pole of the rotor of the motor is detected to produce a position signal, a multi-phase rectangular wave signal is produced by an oscillation circuit, and the frequency of the position signal is multiplied to obtain a multiple frequency signal. A stepwise wave changing stepwisely, with the same frequency as the multiple frequency, is generated. A signal corresponding to the position signal or a phase difference signal representing a phase difference between the multi-phase rectangular wave signal and the position signal is selectively applied as a drive signal to the motor by a drive signal switching circuit. A first signal is produced before the stepwise wave reaches a predetermined level and a second signal is produced when the predetermined level is reached. The drive signal switching circuit produces a signal corresponding to the position signal in response to the first signal thereby to drive the motor in brushless mode, and a signal corresponding to the phase difference signal in response to the second signal thereby to drive the motor in sync mode.
