    摘要: In order to acquire a suitable fingerprint image by correcting an elongated fingerprint image, a line sensor acquires fingerprint image as a plurality of line-shaped images. A computation unit computes a similarity value by use of an evaluation function for evaluating the degree of similarity between the line-shaped images. The similarity value represents the degree of similarity between a first line-shaped image and a second line-shaped image which serve as a similarity evaluation target and are included in the plurality of the line-shaped image. A compression unit compresses the first line-shaped image and the second line-shaped image when the similarity value is equal to or larger than a predetermined threshold value to generate a new line-shaped image. A generation unit generates the entire fingerprint image by combining the new line-shaped image with the other line-shaped images.

A fingerprint image acquisition unit acquires a fingerprint image newly from a user. A similarity value calculation unit compares the fingerprint image newly acquired from the user and the fingerprint image held in the data holding unit, and indicates a degree of similarity therebetween as a similarity value by using a similarity evaluation function for indicating a degree of similarity between a plurality of types of fingerprint images. A load data selection unit reads recording setting data corresponding to a fingerprint image having a similarity value reaching or exceeding a predetermined value if the fingerprint image is held in the data holding unit, and reads certain data prepared in advance if not.

A display unit simultaneously displays both an image picked up by the first image pickup unit and an image picked up by the second image pickup unit on divided display regions, and naturally prompts a user to operate in such manner as to include himself/herself within an image pickup range. When the user moves his/her face or an authentication apparatus upon seeing this display, a relative position or direction of the iris and the image pickup device can be set to a desired state.

    摘要: In a verification apparatus, an image pickup unit picks up an image of an object to be verified. A calculation unit calculates, from the captured object image, a characteristic quantity that characterizes a direction of lines within the object image along a first direction or a characteristic quantity that characterizes the object image as a single physical quantity. Then a region from which data are to be acquired is set by referring to a characteristic quantity of the object image and, from this region, a characteristic quantity that characterizes a direction of lines within the object image along a second direction different from the second direction or a characteristic quantity that characterizes the object image as a single physical quantity is calculated. A verification unit at least verifies the characteristic quantity of the object image against that of a reference image along the second direction.

The input device may also be an optical sensor such as a CCD. The input unit receives from a user input of a fingerprint, a signature or the like. In inputting the signature, the input unit functions as a tablet for inputting signatures utilizing a stylus equipment or the like. In inputting the fingerprint or the signature the user specifies the type of authentication information to be inputted by pressing a fingerprint selection button or a signature selection button. Fingerprint data are obtained by the input device when the user puts the finger on the input unit after pressing the fingerprint selection button. Signature data are obtained by the input device when the user signs on the input unit 10 after pressing the signature selection button.

A pre-extraction and categorization unit generates pre-extracted data from the fingerprint image and uses the data to categorize the input fingerprint image into one of multiple groups. A feature data matching processing unit matches the fingerprint feature data against fingerprint authentication data registered in a fingerprint authentication database by processing methods defined for the respective groups. An integrated authentication unit authenticates a user with the input fingerprint image based upon a result of matching.

A classification unit classifies the fingerprint image inputted by the input unit into any of a plurality of groups defined on the basis of individual differences of the fingerprint.
