摘要: A railway vehicle, in particular a locomotive, has three or more trucks with the bolsters of each swivelly supported on the respective truck frames and having means for transmitting longitudinal traction and braking forces to the body underframe. The truck bolsters mount upright body-support spring devices which are yieldable in shear transversely of the locomotive to permit sufficient limited lateral movement of the body with respect to the trucks to prevent the full force of lateral blows and shocks received by the wheels from being communicated to the body and for preventing the momentum of the body from acting with its full lateral force on the truck wheels and rails. The upright springs of the end trucks support the underframe directly while the upright springs of the intermediate truck or trucks support a superbolster which is movable transversely of the locomotive underframe a substantial distance in addition to the lateral deflection of the upright springs to accommodate the additional lateral movement or excursion of the intermediate truck or trucks with respect to the underframe required during operation on curved track.

摘要: A radial axle railway truck has separate depressed center beam-type side frames mounted at their ends on journal bearing assemblies by means of elastomeric pad devices between downwardly facing surfaces on the side frames and upwardly facing surfaces on the bearing assemblies, the pad devices near the ends of the side frames being at a level higher than the axle centers and laterally inboard of the side frames and those remote from the ends of the side frames being at a level lower than the axle centers and laterally outboard of the side frames, thereby conforming with sloping end portions of the side frames and stabilizing the side frames against tipping transversely. The main frame of the truck has longitudinally extending side members and the side frames mount vertically acting resilient means for supporting the main frame on the side frames. Each side frame is of box section formed with an elongated upwardly open pocket in its depressed central portion receiving vertically resilient means supporting the ends of the elongated side members of a main frame at a low level while maintaining an adequate cross section in the depressed central portions of the respective side frames.

摘要: A six-wheel railway motor truck for swivelly supporting a locomotive body is connected to the same for the effective transmission thereto of draft and braking forces at a level at or near that of the rail whereby the vertical moment arm through which traction forces might act to tip the truck frame and thereby cause load transference from axle to axle is minimized, with corresponding minimization of such load transference. The truck comprises a rigid frame resiliently supported on the three axles, a body support bolster supported on the frame fore and aft of the middle axle for swivel about a point on the longitudinal center line of the truck, the central portion of the bolster above the middle axle being open to provide unobstructed access to the middle axle motor and to provide vertical clearance therefor while maintaining the bolster and overall truck height relatively low. For transmitting longitudinal forces from the truck to the supported body substantially at rail level, the bolster is connected to the vertical body at each side by a pair of longitudinally upwardly and outwardly inclined links arranged so that their axial projections intersect at track level.

摘要: A polygon tiling engine for use in a computer graphics display system. The computer graphics display system includes a high speed processor which provides lines of vertices, object type codes and START and STOP points for the vertex lines. The system further includes a VME bus. An improved apparatus for polygon tiling comprises apparatus for receiving the START and STOP points, instruction register apparatus coupled to the high speed processor for receiving instruction codes, object storing apparatus, a state machine for controlling the polygon tiling apparatus, a polygon address generating machine, a user defined object memory, a multiplexer and a triple buffered memory. Information is sent from the high speed processor to the tripled buffered memory, instruction registers and START and STOP registers. The information is processed into polygon addresses by the polygon generating apparatus. The polygon tiling apparatus is capable of tiling terrain data, multivertex polygons and user defined objects. The user defined objects are preferably stored in a link list random access memory. The state machine controls the polygon address generator and receives instructions from the instruction register. User information is supplied on the VME bus. Tiled polygons are output to a polygon sort engine for further processing.

摘要: A polygon sort engine including first and second apparatus for sorting. The first apparatus for sorting receives planar, externally convex polygon vertices from an external polygon tiling engine. This includes points and lines. The state machine on the second apparatus for sorting interfaces with the polygon tiling engine and a raster engine in a graphics pipeline. It provides a control signal which determines when the first apparatus for sorting will receive the next polygon. The second sorting appartus also controls whether the polygon is stored in the PING or PONG memory. For example, as the state machine is controlling the sorting of the current polygon into the PING RAM, the state machine will also be controlling the loading of the previous vertices and the PONG RAM into the raster engine.

摘要: Apparatus for tramming the wheel and axle assemblies of railway trucks having sideframes and a transverse frame member supported on sideframes, the sideframes being supported at their ends on structures carried on the end portions of the axles, including a fixture having apertures defining the trammed positions of the journal boxes, vertical axis cylindrical apertures in the end portions of the sideframes adapted for general vertical alignment with the fixture apertures, cylindrical bushings rotatably mounted in the sideframe apertures and having off center internal apertures, pins rotatably mounted in the bushing internal apertures and having off center internal apertures, pins rotatably mounted in the bushing internal apertures and having an eccentric extension at their lower ends, whereby irrespective of misalignment of the sideframes, the pin extensions are alignable with and insertable in the fixture apertures, said bushings and pins being lockable in the resulting trammed positions and their eccentric extensions, the axle supported structures being formed with apertures for closely receiving the pin eccentric extensions and thereby fixing the wheel and axle assemblies in trammed relation.

摘要: A six-wheel railway motor truck for swivelly supporting a locomotive body is connected to the same for the effective transmission thereto of draft and braking forces at a level at or near that of the rail whereby the vertical moment arm through which traction forces might act to tip the truck frame and thereby cause load transference from axle to axle is minimized, with corresponding minimization of such load transference. The truck comprises a rigid frame resiliently supported on the three axles, a body support bolster supported on the sides of the truck frame by upright springs and held against swivelling movements or longitudinal movements with respect to the truck frame while being free for limited vertical and transverse movements with respect to the truck frame. Transversely and longitudinally spaced sliding bearings on the bolster slidably engage opposing bearings on the locomotive underframe for holding the bolster against tipping longitudinally or transversely with respect to the underframe and cooperating vertical axis pivot-forming bearings on the underframe and bolster transmit longitudinal forces from the bolster to the underframe and permit swivel of the entire truck with respect to the underframe. For transmitting longitudinal forces from the truck frame to the bolster and hence to the supported longitudinal body substantially at rail level, the truck frame is connected to the bolster at each side by a pair of longitudinally upwardly and outwardly inclined links arranged so that their axial projections intersect at track level.

摘要: A railway vehicle truck in which the framing consists of sideframes resiliently supported at their ends on the axle bearings and a main frame supported on the sideframes by flat elastomeric pad devices inclined longitudinally of the truck and located at a substantially higher level than the levels of the neutral axes of the sideframe center portions and of the effective lateral reaction points of the resilient supports of the sideframes on the axles, the position and inclination of the pad devices being such that the horizontal component of the resultant force developed by each pad device on the respective sideframe lies along the neutral axis of the sideframe center portion whereby to place the center portion of the sideframe in tension rather than bending and thereby permit use of sideframes of extremely light construction, and separating lateral thrust means between the sideframes and main frame from the vertical springing function of the inclined pad devices to permit optimum placement of the lateral thrust means, i.e., in the region of the effective level of resilient support of the sideframes on the axles, thereby eliminating substantial lateral overturning moments on the sideframes which would otherwise occur if all lateral thrust between the main frame and sideframes were applied at the level of the inclined pads.

摘要: A radial axle railway truck is provided with a disc brake system compatible with the radial axles comprising a single disc at the center of each axle adapted to be frictionally engaged by opposing shoes of a disc brake mechanism, the disc brake mechanism associated with each axle being supported by a yoke anti-rotatably mounted solely on truck framing supporting adaptors mounted on the axle bearings to take braking torque while accommodating free pivoting movement of the brake mechanism in the horizontal plane in accordance with movements of the axles from their tangent track positions to their curved track radial positions, such that no forces are applied by the disc brake mechanisms to the respective axles in opposition to the steering forces acting on the respective axles. Rigid links connect the diagonally opposite sides of the brake yokes on the respective axles to accommodate steering movements, in opposite senses, of the respective axles, the mountings of the adaptors on the axle bearings being constructed to permit limited relative movement of the axle bearings transversely of the truck with respect to the respective adaptors and brake support yokes supported thereby, whereby to permit the respective axles, while held in parallelism by the diagonal links, to move transversely of the truck with respect to each other sufficiently to follow horizontal offsets in the track rails without interference from the diagonal links.

摘要: A railway locomotive has three power trucks with the end trucks each having a bolster resiliently supported on the truck frame and connected to the underframe by cooperating vertical axis pivot-forming means, the middle truck bolster being connected to the underframe by a Watts linkage arranged to directly transmit longitudinal forces from the bolster to the underframe while accommodating substantial excursions of the bolster and middle truck frame transversely of the locomotive underframe for operation of the locomotive on the curved track. To prevent substantial axle-to-axle load transference on each of the trucks, each of the bolsters supports the locomotive underframe by opposed sliding surfaces spaced apart a substantial distance lengthwise of the locomotive and each of the bolsters is connected to the respective truck frame by traction transmitting means constructed to transmit the longitudinal traction forces from the truck frame to the bolster and thence to the underframe effectively substantially at rail level.
