摘要： Described is a process for preparing cyclohexadiene derivatives having the generic formula: ##STR1## wherein R is one of C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl, R.sub.1 is methyl when R.sub.2 is hydrogen comprising the step of reacting a 1-alkyl-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexa-1,3-diene or a 1-alkyl-3,4,4-trimethylcyclohexa-1,3-diene with oxygen in the presence of light, an ultraviolet sensitizer, and a basic catalyst; and fractionally distilling the resulting product.

摘要： Described is a process for preparing cyclohexadiene derivatives having the generic formula: ##STR1## by means of reacting a compound having the structure: ##STR2## with mineral acid selected from the group consisting of dilute hydrochloric acid, dilute phosphoric acid and dilute sulfuric acid; wherein R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl. The products produced by this process are useful for their organoleptic properties in perfumes, foodstuffs and tobaccos.

摘要： Processes and compositions are described for use in foodstuff, chewing gum, toothpaste and medicinal product flavor and aroma; tobacco flavor and aroma; perfume and perfumed article aroma augmenting, enhancing and imparting compositions; and as foodstuff, chewing gum, toothpaste, medicinal product, tobacco, perfume and perfumed article aroma imparting materials of one or more cyclohexadiene derivatives having the generic formula: ##STR1## wherein R is one of C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl, R.sub.1 is methyl when R.sub.2 is hydrogen, and R.sub.1 is hydrogen when R.sub.2 is methyl, produced by one of the following processes:(i) Reacting a 1-alkyl-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexa-1,3-diene with oxygen in the presence of light, an ultraviolet sensitizer, and a basic catalyst; and fractionally distilling the resulting product; or(ii) Reacting a 4-alkyl-4-hydroxy-3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-one with dilute aqueous mineral acid and distilling the resulting reaction product.Addition of one or more of the cyclohexadiene derivatives having the formula: ##STR2## wherein R is one of C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl, R.sub.1 is methyl when R.sub.2 is hydrogen, and R.sub.1 is hydrogen when R.sub.2 is methyl, to consumable materials is indicated to produce:(a) In foodstuffs, foodstuff flavoring compositions, chewing gums, toothpastes and medicinal products, sweet, hay-like, heliotropine-like, black pepper-like, woody, tobacco-like and "Oriental" aroma characteristics with sweet, hay-like, heliotropine-like, black pepper-like, woody, tobacco, "Oriental" flavor characteristics;(b) In perfumes, colognes and perfumed articles, warm sweet, slightly minty, woody, natural green, herbaceous, Jasmine-like, fruity aromas; and(c) In tobaccos and tobacco flavors, "dry black tobacco-like" notes, spicey notes, celery-like notes, black pepper-like notes, sweet notes and Virginia tobacco-like notes prior to and on smoking, in both the main stream and the side stream.

摘要： Processes and compositions are described for the use in tobacco, perfume and perfumed article aroma augmenting, enhancing and imparting compositions and as tobacco, perfume and perfumed article aroma augmenting, enhancing or imparting materials of 2-butyl-3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1,4-dione having the formula: ##STR1## produced by reacting a ketal of 3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1,4-dione such as 2,7,9,9-tetramethyl-1,4-dioxaspiro[4,5]dec-6-en-8-one with n-butyltriphenylphosphorane and then deketalizing the resulting product to form the 2-butyl-3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1,4-dione. Addition of 2-butyl-3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1,4-dione to consumable materials is indicated to produce:(A) In perfumes, colognes and perfumed articles, deep, slightly woody, herbaceous aromas; and(B) In tobaccos and tobacco flavors, pungent, sweet, hay-, tea-, tobacco-like, floral and fruity notes, both prior to and on smoking in both the main stream and the side stream.
