摘要： A method for enabling a consumer bill recipient to pay his/her bills via the USPS or other carrier sooner than was heretofore possible. The foregoing is accomplished by enabling a company to send a bill to a bill recipient that contains a bill paying return portion in the form of a mail piece having a Planet code and Postnet bar code that references the bill recipient and amount to be paid on the outside of mail piece so that when a scanner at the USPS reads the Planet code and Postnet bar code, the bill recipient's bank account will be debited for the entire amount of the bill or a minimum payment that is due for the bill.

摘要： A method for providing a secure communications channel for the transmission of large amounts of information between a RFID tag and a RFID reader. A laser beam is utilized to carry information and power from the RFID reader to the RFID tag. Thus, the laser beam has a dual use as an information carrier and a source of power for the RFID tag. Thus, only individuals and/or equipment that can both see the laser transmission and hear the RFID transmission can eavesdrop on the RFID tag RFID reader transmissions. This invention allows the use of complex algorithms to protect data being communicated because they can use the increased level of power available to the RDIF tag.

摘要： A business reply mail payment system and method is provided. A business reply mail payment system establishes a master account with the postal system for the payment of business reply mail. A plurality of mailers each establish a separate account with the payment system and transfer control of payment for business reply mail accepted under their respective permit imprints to the payment system. When the mailer will be receiving business reply mail, a request for payment of postage is made to the payment system, which processes the information related to the business reply mail. The post office acceptance site communicates with the payment system as the business reply mail is received and compares the received business reply mail with the information processed by the payment system to determine if it should be accepted or rejected. If the business reply mail is accepted, the master account is debited for payment.

The inserter system scans control documents included in the mailpieces to identify corresponding mailpiece records. The system can include a plurality of envelope feeders at least some of which are loaded with envelopes pre-marked with evidence of payment, and can also include a plurality of mechanisms for franking mailpieces prepared with blank envelopes. 摘要： A method of enabling remote deposit of checks includes receiving at a second site a plurality of check images and a plurality of entered dollar amounts, wherein the check images were generated at the depositor site by scanning the checks and the entered dollar amounts were manually entered at the depositor site. Each of the entered dollar amounts correspond to a respective one of the check images. The check dollar amounts are read from the check images at the second site using character recognition, and certain of the entered dollar amounts are used as hints to improve the accuracy of the character recognition. The enhanced character recognition results are provided to the depository bank along with the check images to enable the checks to be deposited in the depositor's account.
