    摘要: A refrigerant handling system that includes a compressor for pumping refrigerant through the system, and an evaporator connected to the compressor inlet for ensuring that refrigerant fed to the compressor inlet is in vapor phase. A flow control device is coupled to the inlet of the evaporator for controlling flow of refrigerant to the evaporator, and comprises a thermostatic expansion valve having first and second pressure inputs, and valve elements for controlling flow of refrigerant through the valve to the evaporator as a function of a pressure differential between the pressure inputs. A first bulb containing refrigerant is sealingly coupled to the first pressure input of the valve, and is positioned so as to supply a first control pressure to the valve as a function of vapor pressure of refrigerant in the bulb at the temperature of refrigerant entering the evaporator. A second bulb containing the same type of refrigerant is sealingly coupled to the second pressure input of the valve, and is positioned to supply a control pressure to the second valve input as a function of vapor pressure of refrigerant at the temperature of refrigerant exiting the evaporator.

    摘要: Refrigerant is purified by circulating the refrigerant in a closed path from a first refrigerant container through a filter/dryer unit back to the first refrigerant container. Air and other non-condensibles are purged from the refrigerant in the first storage container during this refrigerant circulation process. Following the non-condensible purging operation, the refrigerant in the first container is transferred through a filter/dryer unit into a second refrigerant container. This second refrigerant container is evacuated prior to transferring the purified refrigerant thereto. Capacity of the filter/dryer unit is monitored, either by monitoring time of operation of the refrigerant pump or monitoring wetness of the circulated refrigerant with the sight gauge.

A refrigerant outlet is positioned at the lower portion of the chamber for drawing liquid phase refrigerant from the chamber. A minimum level of liquid phase refrigerant is maintained in the lower portion of the chamber at the outlet isolating the outlet from the vapor space, and preventing removal of air and other non-condensibles from the chamber through the outlet.

    摘要: A refrigerant recovery system which includes a compressor having an input coupled through an evaporator and through a solenoid valve to the refrigeration system from which refrigerant is to be withdrawn, and an output coupled through a condenser to a refrigerant storage container. The evaporator and condenser are contained within a closed cylindrical canister for heat exchange and oil separation, the canister having an oil drain valve in the bottom. The refrigerant storage container is carried by a scale having a limit switch coupled to control electronics to prevent or terminate further refrigerant recovery when the container is full. The entire system, including the control electronics, is mounted on a two-wheel hand truck to facilitate transport to a job site such as a building air conditioning or heat pump system. Apparatus for purifying recovered refrigerant includes a replaceable core filter/dryer, and a liquid pump for circulating refrigerant from the liquid port of the storage container through the core and then to the container vapor port. A differential pressure gauge is connected across the filter/dryer to indicate need for core replacement. A moisture indicator displays water concentration in the refrigerant. The purification apparatus may be either separate from or combined with the recovery system.

Solenoid valves are associated with the inlet and outlet paths, and are actuated alternately so that the inlet and outlet paths are not simultaneously connected to the compressor. The connector fittings are mounted on a panel that has a sliding door for selectively exposing either but not both sets of connector fittings. The chance of misconnection and mixing refrigerant types is thereby reduced.

    摘要: In a combined recovery, purification and recharging system, a refrigerant compressor has an inlet coupled to a recovery control valve for connection to a refrigeration system under service from which refrigerant is to be recovered, purified and recharged into the system. The compressor outlet is connected to a first port of a refrigerant storage container. A filter for removing contaminants from refrigerant is coupled to a circulation control valve for selectively circulating refrigerant in a closed path during a purification cycle from a second port of the container through the filter back to the first port of the container. A vacuum pump is coupled to a vacuum control valve for selective connection to the refrigeration system under service during a vacuum cycle for evacuating the system under service to atmosphere. A pressure sensor is connected to the vacuum pump for automatically terminating vacuum pump operation when pressure in the system under service is below a preselected low-pressure threshold. The purification cycle may be initiated either automatically upon initiation of a vacuum cycle, or by an operator independently of the vacuum cycle. A recharging control valve is coupled to the second port of the refrigerant storage container for selectively feeding fresh refrigerant from the storage container to the refrigeration system under service during a recharging cycle.
