    摘要: A method to initialize information disposed in an information storage and retrieval system comprising a data cache and one or more information storage media comprising a plurality of addresses. The method receives an initialization command, where that initialization command comprises a range of addresses and, optionally, an initialization pattern, where the plurality of addresses includes the range of addresses. The method forms and saves state information, where that state information includes the initialization pattern, and generates and saves a plurality of indicators, where that plurality of indicators includes an indicator for each track comprising the range of addresses. The method sets each of those indicators to a first value thereby indicating special handling, and provides an ending status signal, such that the receiving step, forming step, generating step, setting step, and providing step are performed substantially synchronously.

    摘要: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for data tracking and, in particular, for facilitating failure management within an electronic data communication system. The apparatus includes a tracking module and an error analysis module. The tracking module stores an adapter identifier in a tracking array. The adapter identifier corresponds to a source adapter from which data is received. The error analysis module determines a source of a data failure in response to recognition of the data failure. The data failure may occur on a host adapter, a device adapter, a communication fabric, a multi-processor, or another communication device. The apparatus, system, and method may be implemented in place of or in addition to hardware-assisted data integrity checking within a data storage system.

    摘要: An apparatus, method, and system associates an identifier with a data packet. The identifier uniquely identifies a communication module, such as a host interface card, within a data storage system. In operation, a computer host sends a data packet to a server. The communication module receives the data packet and associates an identifier, unique to the communication module, with the data packet. The data packet is stored in a disk array, such as a Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) system. When the computer host later requests the stored data packet, a validation module, which may be implemented within a PCI adapter such as a host interface card, retrieves the data packet and determines whether the data packet is corrupt. If the data packet is corrupt, the validation module identifies which host interface card corrupted the data with the use of the unique identifier associated with the data packet. The faulty communication module may then be removed from operation in the data storage system.

    摘要: A computer storage system includes a supervisor algorithm to detect a host computer's initiator logging in. The supervisor algorithm identifies data storage devices associated with the newly logged-on initiator and tags logical unit number control blocks (“LUNCBs”) as having priority in an initiation process. The supervisor algorithm assigns a task control block to each of the identified data storage devices and invokes a logical unit number (“LUN”) initialization algorithm. If the supervisor algorithm was invoked during an initial microcode load (“IML”) event, the LUN initialization algorithm initializes each of the identified data storage devices. However, if the supervisor algorithm was invoked during a warmstart procedure, the LUN initialization algorithm first checks to make sure the LUNCB was not mistakenly written too. If not, the LUN initialization algorithm terminates without initializing the associated data storage device. Otherwise, the associated data storage device is initialized and the LUN initialization algorithm terminates.
