摘要： The double walled exhaust pipe of the present invention consists of an outer pipe which forms an outer wall of the exhaust pipe and an inner pipe which forms an inner wall of the exhaust pipe, the outer pipe and the inner pipe are fixed each other at an exhaust inlet portion which provides a reference point of the thermal expansion of the inner pipe and the outer pipe. The double walled exhaust pipe of the present invention has at least one bent portion. Further, the inner pipe of the double walled exhaust pipe is divided into longitudinal pipe sections, and at least one sliding connection, which connects the sections of the inner pipe permitting the relative longitudinal slide movements of the pipe sections, is provided between the exhaust inlet portion and the bent portion having the largest bending angle.

摘要： An electrically heated catalytic converter having a substrate for a catalyst, a rod-like metal electrode connected to the substrate, and a casing accommodating the substrate. The substrate for the catalyst is formed as a scroll-like cylindrical laminated assembly of thin metal sheets wound around the electrode. The electrode extends from the laminated assembly along the central axis, bends towards the wall of the casing and penetrates the casing. The electrode is fixed to the casing via an insulating material at the point where it penetrates the casing. When the electricity is fed to the electrode, electric current flows through the electrode to the laminated assembly, and to the casing, and heat is generated in the substrate by the electric current and the temperature of the catalyst carried by the substrate quickly reaches the activating temperature. The rod-like electrode of the present invention is formed as a hollow pipe. Since the heat mass of the hollow pipe electrode is very small compared with the solid metal rod electrode, only a small amount of the heat generated by the electric current is consumed for heating the electrode of the present invention. Therefore, a large amount of the heat generated by the electric current is used for heating the substrate for the catalyst, and the time required for heating the substrate for the catalyst is greatly reduced.

摘要： A spiral wound gasket having an annular body serving as a centering member which is integrally disposed at the inner periphery side of a gasket body formed by winding, in the form of a spiral. The gasket body comprises a metal hoop material and a filler material overlapping each other. When this gasket is disposed at fit-joint-type pipe connection portions of the exhaust pipe system in a motor vehicle, the annular body serves as a centering member to prevent the gasket body from protruding into the fit joint. This prevents the gasket body from deterioration and damage, thus assuring a high sealing property for a long period of time. Further, merely by inserting and fitting the gasket, the gasket may be automatically aligned and positioned with respect to the fit joint. Further, the inner peripheral surface of the gasket body and the annular body form an annular closed space, thus making the entire gasket into a lightweight design.

The muffler comprises an outer cylinder, a pair of inner pipes, slidable into each other, penetrating into the outer cylinder and having a number of small holes therein, separators fixed to the outer cylinder by outer flanges provided with notches, and to the inner pipes by inner flanges, and the spaces defined by the inner pipes, separators and outer cylinder being filled with a sound absorbing material such as glass wool.
