Abstract: Children's ride-on vehicles. The ride-on, or ride-on vehicle, includes a frame having a seat adapted to support a child, and a drive assembly with a battery-powered motor assembly. The ride-on vehicle further includes one or more steerable wheels and one or more driven wheels. In some embodiments, the ride-on vehicle includes a biasing assembly that is connected to the frame and adapted to bias the seat away from the vehicle's driven wheels. In some embodiments, the ride-on vehicle includes a free-floating wheel, which is unbiased and travels within a defined range of positions with respect to the ride-on vehicle's frame as external forces are imparted to the wheel. In some embodiments, the ride-on vehicle includes a high-speed switch positioned for momentary high-speed operation of the ride-on vehicle and a user-manipulable portion may be provided to enable a child to select such a high-speed configuration.

Abstract: A children's ride-on vehicle is provided with a chassis having a seat configured to accommodate a driver. The chassis includes a generally vertical, cylindrical channel extending therethrough. A handlebar is disposed in front of the seat and is operable by the driver to steer the vehicle. A steering column, connected to the handlebar, is pivotal in the channel about a first vertical axis. A motor and gear train housing is coupled to the steering column for rotation with the steering column about the first vertical axis and the housing supports a battery, an electric motor powered by the battery, and a gear train operatively coupled to the motor. A front axle is captured in the housing nominally transverse the vehicle and two front wheels are rotatably held on the front axle and coupled to the gear train for driving the vehicle. A keyway in the channel and a mating structure on the steering column limit the pivoting of the steering column to about 7.degree. from the nominal position in each direction. A bracket is pivotally mounted adjacent the rear of the chassis for rotation about a second vertical axis. A rear axle is mounted to the bracket transverse the vehicle. Two wheels are mounted to the second axle for rotation about an axis transverse the vehicle. A steering linkage is coupled between the front axle and the bracket for coordinated pivoting of the front axle and the rear axle for steering the vehicle.

Abstract: A child's ride-on toy has a rear mounted parent assist handle and is convertible to a child's rocker toy by rotating the handle about a rear axle to a position beneath the ride-on toy to serve as rocker rails. The handle can also be removed. The combination rocker and tricycle may thus be used either as a child's riding vehicle (with or without a parent-assist handle) or as a stationary rocker toy. As a child's tricycle, the handle is locked in an upright position extending rearwardly from the rear axle of the tricycle and positioned at a height convenient for a parent to control the motion of the tricycle. When the parent assist handle is no longer required it can be removed. To convert to a child's rocker the handle is rotated about the rear axle and positioned beneath the tricycle so that the handle portions support the tricycle.
