The present disclosure relates to hair care compositions such as hair treatment compositions and hair lightening compositions, methods for treating hair (e.g., lightening hair), and to kits comprising the compositions. The components of the hair treatment compositions may be included in hair lightening compositions and used to lighten and/or color hair. The hair treatment compositions typically include: (a) one or more polycarboxylic acids, and/or a salt thereof; (b) one or more amino acids, and/or a salt thereof; and optionally (c) one or more cationic conditioning agents. The hair lightening compositions further include (d) one or more bleaching agents.

Disclosed are hair color bases, hair color compositions, and methods for altering the color of hair. Hair color bases comprise a buffer system including ammonium chloride, sodium metasilicate, ammonium hydroxide, and monoethanolamine (MEA). Hair color compositions comprise a hair base comprising a buffer system including ammonium chloride, sodium metasilicate, ammonium hydroxide, and monoethanolamine (MEA), and an oxidizing component.

Disclosed are compositions for controlling or slowing down the coloration of keratin fibers such as hair wherein the compositions comprise at least one film-forming latex polymer, at least one neutralizing agent, and at least one organic solvent, and water, wherein the pH of the composition is from about 2 to about 6. Methods for controlling or slowing down the coloration of hair using the compositions are also disclosed.

The present invention is drawn to an agent and process for altering the color of keratin fibers wherein the agent comprises: (A) a color base composition containing from about 50% to about 80% by weight of a fatty substance comprising a viscosity greater than about 50 mm2/s at 40° C.; and optionally, an additional fatty substance; a rheology modifying polymer; an alkalizing agent; a short alkyl chain hydroxy compound chosen from monoalcohols and polyols; an oxidative dye precursor; and an oxidizing composition comprising an oxidizing agent; and wherein the pH of the agent for altering the color of keratin fibers ranges from about 1 to about 7.

Disclosed herein is a powder composition containing an alkaline material comprising hydroxide-containing compounds, two carbonate compounds, a starch, a silica material, a liquid fatty substance, an acrylic polymer, a sulfur-containing compound, and a chelant compound. When the powder composition is mixed with an aqueous composition, a ready to use composition for removing or depilating hair is formed.
