    摘要: A surge suppressing check valve, in its closed condition, closes a fluid passage and separates it into inlet and outlet portions. A cylinder communicates with the outlet portion. A first piston closes the cylinder adjacent to the outlet portion and is axially movable against the urging of a compression spring to enlarge the volume of the outlet portion of the fluid passage for suppressing pressure surges therein. A second piston is provided for pre-loading the bias spring, the pre-loading being selectively variable via a threaded stem and nut connected to the second piston. The first and second pistons are coupled together so that the entire assembly can be removed from the housing. Means are provided for removing fluid from the housing.

    摘要: A device for measuring cycles of random reciprocal motion of an object, such as a control valve which moves in discrete movements of varying length between an opened and closed position, includes a cylindrical travel translator member biased within a housing by a coil spring to maintain tension on a cable connecting the travel translator member to the object, so that the travel translator member moves in a direction corresponding to and a distance proportional to that of the object. An elastomeric wheel frictionally engages the travel translator member to rotate a shaft which operates a mechanical counter, and through a cam, a limit switch which generates pulses representative of the random cycles of the object. Rotation of the shaft is limited to that required to operate the counter and limit switch by stops so that the elastomeric wheel slips relative to the travel translator member when the object continues, either in the same movement or in successive movements, to travel in a given direction beyond the amount required to operate the counter and limit switch.

    摘要: A portable test device for set point and leakage testing of a variety of sizes of pressure relief valves using the actual operating fluid under realistic test conditions includes a housing having a cylindrical bore, a main piston slidable in the bore to form at one end a test chamber, a translator piston also slidable in the bore to form at the other end a pressurizing chamber, and a spring pack biasing the pistons apart. An adapter plate mounts various size relief valves to the device with the valve inlet in communication with the test chamber. With a fixed amount of test fluid sealed in the test chamber, the pressure of hydraulic fluid introduced into the pressurizing chamber increases the pressure of the test fluid until the valve actuates. An electric immersion heater in the test chamber provides the capability for hot liquid testing and vapor testing. In the latter case, fluid in the liquid phase is introduced into the test chamber and heated to the test temperature by the immersion heater with the pressure held at a value just above, but close to, saturation pressure at the test temperature. The pressure is rapidly reduced to flash the fluid into the vapor phase and then built up again to the desired test conditions.

    摘要: A valve head of the pressure relief valve is urged into the closed (seated) position by a spring, assisted by a force derived from pressurized fluid which is situated in a chamber behind the valve head and which is admitted thereto from the upstream side of the valve seat through a chamber in the valve head. The chamber in the valve head is open toward the inlet port of the valve and is partly defined and surrounded by a skirt-like extension oriented transversely to the axis of the valve inlet port. The diameter of the chamber whose opening has a plane generally perpendicular to the direction of valve head motion, is at least as large as the diameter of the valve intake port. In the seated (closed) state the skirt-like extension reaches transversely into the inlet port at least as far as the axis of the inlet port and in the maximum open position the skirt-like extension is at the most just clear of the inlet port.

    摘要: A pressure tight seal is formed between the confronting planar sealing surfaces on the flanges of a nuclear reactor pressure vessel and its hemispherical head, by a toroidal, crushable tubular seal member which is locked into a flat annular spacer member by a resilient annular member, such as a circular coil spring seated in a V-shaped recess in the inner surface of the flat annular member. The thickness of the flat annular member and the resiliency of the circular coil spring control the deformation of the tubular seal member as the sealing surfaces are drawn toward each other by flange bolts. The flat annular member is provided with axial bores which register with the flange bolts to provide positive positioning of the tubular seal member without the necessity of providing grooves in the confronting planar sealing surfaces.
