    Abstract: A method of monitoring a milking process by a milking apparatus that includes a teatcup with a pulsation space and an airline to deliver varying levels of pressure to the pulsation space. The method includes: measuring airflow within the airline to obtain an indication of volume of displaced air within the pulsation space; comparing the volume with a reference value; and determining a connection parameter, indicating how the teatcup is connected to the teat, based on the comparison. The displaced air volume correlates to the extent the teat protrudes into the teatcup, thus providing information on how the teatcup is connected. Also provided is a milking system incorporating the method.

    Abstract: A system for removing manure from a floor in a barn for animals, such as cows, includes an autonomous manure removing vehicle, which is provided with a drive system. The drive system includes at least one electric drive motor. An electronic control system is connected to the drive system for control thereof. A battery system for storing electrical energy is connected to the drive system and the control system. The system includes a charging station for charging the battery system. The charging station includes a transmitting body with a primary coil. The manure removing vehicle includes a receiving body with a secondary coil. The receiving body is fastened rigidly to the manure removing vehicle. The transmitting body of the charging station is pretensioned to a waiting state, and is movable from the waiting state against the action of the pretension, through engagement with the receiving body of the manure removing vehicle that enters the charging station, in such a way that the primary coil of the transmitting body and the secondary coil of the receiving body are mutually aligned in a charging state to transfer electrical energy wirelessly from the primary coil to the secondary coil for wireless charging of the battery system.

    Abstract: The invention provides a milking device comprising at least one milking cup with a teat space and a pulsation space, a pulsator connected by means of a pulsation line to the pulsation space of the milking cup and provided with a vacuum source, a vacuum line provided with a first controllable valve between the vacuum source and the pulsation line, an aeration line provided with a second controllable valve between the pulsation line and a source of higher pressure, and a pulsator control system for the first and second valves, wherein the pulsator control system comprises a flushing mode for opening and holding open the first and second valves during at least a predefined flushing time which is at least as long as and preferably longer than the pulsation period. In this way it is possible to have both valves open simultaneously and the pulsator will draw in air from the environment in an initially unhindered flow. This flow may be used for example to flush the system with air (“blow through”) but also for example to measure the air flow and/or pressure drops in the system, and on the basis thereof to determine the degree of soiling of the system.
