Abstract: A method for controlling a remote controller and a multimedia device is disclosed. The multimedia device connected to an external electronic device includes a memory configured to store at least string and on screen display (OSD) graphic data corresponding thereto, a video processor configured to process a video image received from the external electronic device, a detection module configured to detect a string in the video image, a controller configured to access the memory and extract OSD graphic data corresponding to the detected string, a display module configured to output the extracted OSD graphic data, the OSD graphic data being divided into one or more regions, and a communication module configured to transmit a command signal corresponding to a specific region to the external electronic device or the remote controller if the specific region in the OSD graphic data is selected.
