A receiver that receives a broadcast signal including service data of a broadcast service and an emergency alert table including an emergency alert message, a first decoder that decodes the service data, a second decoder that decodes the emergency alert table, and a display processor that displays the broadcast service including the decoded service data and emergency alert message in the decoded emergency alert table. The display processor further displays information to notify that an additional content related to the emergency alert message is present, and the display processor further displays the additional content based on a selection of the information by a user. The broadcast signal further includes wake-up information, where a value of the wake-up information is changed from 0 to 1 based on a wake-up call, and the value of the wake-up information is changed from 1 to 2 based on a different wake-up call.

A method and broadcast terminal for receiving an emergency alert message in a sleep mode, are discussed. In one embodiment, the method includes monitoring fast information channel (FIC) wake-up indicator in an FIC segment to determine if the broadcast terminal should be switched to an active mode to receive the emergency alert message; getting an FIC-Chunk payload responsive to the FIC wake-up indicator in the FIC segment, the FIC-Chunk payload including an emergency alert data package indicator; receiving an alert data indicated by a data package identification included in the FIC-Chunk payload, the emergency alert data package indicator indicating an emergency alert table describing the emergency alert message is carried in the data; and parsing the emergency alert message based on the emergency alert table.

The broadcast signal further includes wake-up information that includes 2 bits representing at least a first wake-up notification of a first emergency or a second wake-up notification of a second emergency different from the first wake-up notification of the first emergency.

According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method for receiving urgent alarm contents through a broadcast system includes the steps of: receiving a broadcast signal; parsing an urgent alarm table contained in the broadcast signal, the urgent alarm table containing an urgent alarm message and an urgent alarm contents transmission structure descriptor for signaling the information of the urgent alarm contents concerning the urgent alarm message, and the urgent alarm contents transmission structure descriptor containing the IP address of an IP datagram for transmitting the urgent alarm contents; receiving the IP datagram of the IP address; and decoding the IP datagram so as to reproduce the urgent alarm contents.

A method of transmitting an emergency alert message by a broadcast transmitter is discussed. The method includes encoding, by an encoder circuit, service data and signaling data; encoding, by a signaling encoder circuit, transmission parameter data, wherein the transmission parameter data includes encoding information of the service data; modulating, by a modulator, the encoded service data, the encoded signaling data, and the encoded transmission parameter data; and transmitting, by a Radio Frequency (RF) transmitter, a broadcast signal including the modulated service data, the modulated signaling data, and the modulated transmission parameter data.
