    摘要: Methods and apparatus for supplying an ink mist to an electrostatic printing head or the like including means for continual replenishment, density monitoring, and density adjustment of the ink supply, and means for generating a highly uniform mist of ink droplets. An ion stream is modulated in accordance with images or characters to be printed. Ink mist is introduced into the ion stream. Ink particles impinged upon by ions become charged and are accelerated toward a receiving medium by an overall accelerating field. Ink not utilized by the printing mechanism is returned to the ink supply for recycling. The composition of the ink supply is regulated by means of continuous monitoring of the ink density; automatically controlling additions of the ink constituents functions to maintain the ink density at a given level. The ink recycling system includes a precipitator to convert the unused ink mist into liquid ink and air. Ink solvent vapors are removed from that air by a two-stage condenser and are returned to the ink supply. Ink mist is generated by a plurality of ultrasonic transducers located beneath the surface of a supply of liquid ink. To enhance uniformity, the mist is forced from a first chamber through a narrow aperture into a second chamber before leaving the generator. Mesh screens filter oversized droplets from the mist.

    摘要: A first arcuate band and a second arcuate band include a threaded rod and a ratchet rod, respectively, secured to one another by an adjustment block to define the operative elements of a hat stretcher. A pair of pawls, lockable in place, extend from the adjustment block to lockingly engage selected ratchet grooves of the ratchet rod and provide coarse adjustment. A threaded bore in the adjustment block threadedly receives the threaded rod to provide fine adjustment. Release and reengagement of the pawls with the selected grooves eliminates the need for readjustment of the hat stretcher between periods of use with a same sized hat.

    摘要: A blood leak detector includes a housing having top and bottom walls and opposed end walls. Dialysate fluid is received in the housing through a port formed in the bottom wall and is directed upwardly through the housing to an outlet port formed in the top wall at a point directly above the inlet port. Axially aligned cylindrical plugs are mounted in the end walls. One of the plugs houses structure for directing a beam of green light through the effluent dialysate and the other cylindrical plug houses structure responsive to green light for generating an ouptput signal indicative of the opacity of the dialysate. A 70 micron stainless steel screen is wrapped around the cylindrical plugs and functions to prevent gas bubbles flowing into the housing with the dialysate from entering the light beam. The cylindrical screen extends to opposed edges positioned in a spaced apart relationship to define a slot which permits gas flow out of the interior of the cylindrical screen configuration.

    摘要: A line printing apparatus in which spot patterns of ink or toner particles are formed on a moving paper sheet. A modulator defined by a corona source and an electric shield which has a multiplicity of linearly arranged apertures is spaced from one side of the paper. The voltage at each aperture is individually controlled so that ions from the corona are permitted or prevented from passing through preselected apertures. The passing ions impinge certain particles in a toner particle cloud between the modulator and the one side of the paper sheet. A paper support bar is positioned on the other side of the paper and constructed of an insulator and an elongate electrode is secured to the back side of the insulator and positioned parallel to the aperture array. Lateral sides of the insulator are grounded and a high voltage applied to the electrode results in a high surface voltage on the paper support surface of the insulator which gradually drops off to zero or opposite potential from a maximum along a line aligned with the aperture array to the lateral sides of the insulator. Those toner particles impinged by ions are attracted to the high surface voltage on the insulator and deposited on the side of the sheet facing the modulator to sequentially form spot patterns and generate a line print. In one embodiment, the paper support bar is stationary and the paper sheet slides across its surface. In another embodiment, the paper support bar is a rotatable cylinder, preferably supported by rotatable support cylinders with electrically insulative surfaces.
