摘要： An image heating apparatus for heating a toner image formed on a recording material includes a first rotatable member contactable to the toner image; and a heating unit, including a second rotatable member rotating while contacting a surface of the first rotatable member, for heating the first rotatable member. The toner image on the recording material is heated by receiving heat from the first rotatable member heated by the heating unit. The image heating apparatus further includes a potential controller for maintaining a polarity of a surface potential of the second rotatable member so as to be opposite to a charge polarity of the toner.

摘要： An image heating apparatus for heating a toner image formed on a recording material includes a first rotatable member contactable to the toner image; and a heating unit, including a second rotatable member rotating while contacting a surface of the first rotatable member, for heating the first rotatable member. The toner image on the recording material is heated by receiving heat from the first rotatable member heated by the heating unit. The image heating apparatus further includes a potential controller for maintaining a polarity of a surface potential of the second rotatable member so as to be opposite to a charge polarity of the toner.

摘要： A fixing device fixes on a recording material a toner image formed on the recording material and includes a fixing roller, a heating member for heating the fixing roller in contact with an outer surface of the fixing roller, and a pressing member for forming a fixing nip between itself and the fixing roller. When the recording material which has been jammed so that its leading end passes through the fixing nip to reach a contact portion between the heating member and the fixing roller, a force for drawing the recording material upstream when nipped in the fixing nip is at least equal to the drawing force of the recording material, toward the upstream side with respect to the rotational direction of the fixing roller, nipped between the fixing roller in the rest state and the heating member.

摘要： A fixing device for fixing on a recording material a toner image formed on the recording material includes a fixing roller; a heating member for heating the fixing roller in contact with a surface of the fixing roller; and a pressing member for forming a fixing nip between itself and the fixing roller, wherein the recording material on which the toner image is formed is subjected to fixing by being nipped and conveyed in the fixing nip. When the recording material which has been jammed is removed by pulling a trailing end of the recording material in a winding jam state in which a leading end of the recording material has passed through the fixing nip to reach a contact portion between the heating member and the fixing roller, a drawing force F1 for drawing the recording material, toward an upstream side with respect to a rotational direction of the fixing roller, nipped in the fixing nip between the fixing roller in rest state and the pressing member and a drawing force F2 for drawing the recording material, toward the upstream side with respect to the rotational direction of the fixing roller, nipped between the fixing roller in the rest state and the heating member are set so that the drawing force F2 is not more than the drawing force F1 so as to prevent the fixing roller from being tightened by the recording material.

摘要： An image heating apparatus includes a contact-sliding member parallel to a generatrix of a heating roller and brought into contact with the heating roller configured to heat a toner image on a recording material. An inlet space and an outlet space are formed at the upstream and downstream ends, respectively, of a contact area. A cleaning member, provided on the downstream side of the contact area, cleans the surface of the heating roller to remove toner and paper dust from the surface of the heating roller.

摘要： An image forming apparatus forms an unfixed toner image on a sheet and includes a fixing unit including a fixing roller, a back-up member forming a nip with the fixing roller, and a rotatable heater contactable to and heating the fixing roller. The sheet is output from the apparatus after the unfixed toner image is fixed on the sheet. In a cleaning mode for cleaning the fixing unit, a predetermined unfixed toner image is formed on the sheet, the sheet is fed to the fixing unit, the toner is transferred from the sheet onto the fixing roller in the fixing nip, the toner transferred onto the fixing roller is brought into contact to the heating member, and thereafter, the toner on the fixing roller is transferred onto the sheet in the fixing nip.
