摘要： A fixing device fixes on a recording material a toner image formed on the recording material and includes a fixing roller, a heating member for heating the fixing roller in contact with an outer surface of the fixing roller, and a pressing member for forming a fixing nip between itself and the fixing roller. When the recording material which has been jammed so that its leading end passes through the fixing nip to reach a contact portion between the heating member and the fixing roller, a force for drawing the recording material upstream when nipped in the fixing nip is at least equal to the drawing force of the recording material, toward the upstream side with respect to the rotational direction of the fixing roller, nipped between the fixing roller in the rest state and the heating member.

摘要： An image heating apparatus for heating a toner image formed on a recording material includes a first rotatable member contactable to the toner image; and a heating unit, including a second rotatable member rotating while contacting a surface of the first rotatable member, for heating the first rotatable member. The toner image on the recording material is heated by receiving heat from the first rotatable member heated by the heating unit. The image heating apparatus further includes a potential controller for maintaining a polarity of a surface potential of the second rotatable member so as to be opposite to a charge polarity of the toner.

摘要： A fixing device for fixing on a recording material a toner image formed on the recording material includes a fixing roller; a heating member for heating the fixing roller in contact with a surface of the fixing roller; and a pressing member for forming a fixing nip between itself and the fixing roller, wherein the recording material on which the toner image is formed is subjected to fixing by being nipped and conveyed in the fixing nip. When the recording material which has been jammed is removed by pulling a trailing end of the recording material in a winding jam state in which a leading end of the recording material has passed through the fixing nip to reach a contact portion between the heating member and the fixing roller, a drawing force F1 for drawing the recording material, toward an upstream side with respect to a rotational direction of the fixing roller, nipped in the fixing nip between the fixing roller in rest state and the pressing member and a drawing force F2 for drawing the recording material, toward the upstream side with respect to the rotational direction of the fixing roller, nipped between the fixing roller in the rest state and the heating member are set so that the drawing force F2 is not more than the drawing force F1 so as to prevent the fixing roller from being tightened by the recording material.

An inlet space and an outlet space are formed at the upstream and downstream ends, respectively, of a contact area. A cleaning member, provided on the downstream side of the contact area, cleans the surface of the heating roller to remove toner and paper dust from the surface of the heating roller.

The support belt is stretched over at least one of the pressure receiving roller and the suspension roller. When pressing the transfer belt between the pressure receiving roller and the secondary transfer roller, and nipping paper between the transfer belt and the secondary transfer roller, an angle defined by the portion, upstream from the secondary transfer roller, of the transfer belt and an imaginary line connecting the pressure-receiving-roller axis with the secondary-transfer-roller axis is less than 90 degrees. A part of the support belt is held between the transfer belt and at least one of the two rollers over which the support belt is stretched.
