Abstract: A hand assembly for a doll, which includes a pivotally mounted thumb for grasping and releasing objects, the position of the thumb relative to the fingers being controlled by pivoting of the entire hand rather than directly moving the thumb. The assembly includes a wrist armature that can be mounted on a doll arm, a hand member with a multiple finger portion pivotally mounted on the wrist armature, a thumb member pivotally mounted on the hand member, and a spring connecting the thumb and hand members to urge the thumb toward a closed position. When the hand member is pivoted in a predetermined direction on the wrist armature, a part of the wrist armature pivots the thumb faster than the hand member so that the thumb opens on the finger portion of the hand. When the hand is pivoted to an extreme position the wrist armature maintains the hand posed with the thumb opened.

Abstract: A control lever is swingably mounted in torso for controlling rotation and tilting of upper and lower torso members with respect to each other. When control lever is swung to a first position it imparts a frictional drag to the connector connecting the torso portions together. Abstract: A fashion doll with a fall-type hairpiece which can be adjusted in length without the necessity for knobs, buttons, or the like on the outside of the doll. The apparatus includes a string having an inner end wound on a wheel within the doll and an outer end tied to an end of the hairpiece which is within the doll. A spring urges the wheel to rotate in a direction to shorten the apparent length of the hairpiece. The wheel has several recesses spaced about its axis of rotation, and a ball is normally disposed partially within a recess on the wheel and another recess on a wheel-supporting frame, to lock the position of the wheel when the doll is up-right. However, turning of the doll to a face down position causes the ball to fall completely into the frame recess, to release the wheel so it can retract the hairpiece into the head as far as it is allowed to retract by a child who holds the outer end of the hairpiece. The wheel which winds up the string is located in the chest of the doll, and the string extends downwardly therefrom, around a second wheel in the abdomen portion of the doll and upwardly to the hairpiece, to enable a long hairpiece to be received in a small doll without tangling.

Abstract: A toy supermarket checkout stand with a rotatable turntable for holding goods and a constantly rotating sign over it, which uses a simple self-disengaging drive for the turntable. A drive roller for rotating the turntable, is fixed to a worm wheel that is rotated by a screw. The worm wheel is mounted on a frame that slides parallel to the axis of the screw so that the worm wheel is always engaged with the screw, the frame sliding between an engaged position wherein the drive roller engages the turntable and a disengaged position wherein it is disengaged from the turntable. The motor rotates the screw in a direction that urges the frame towards the disengaged position, so that there is automatic disengagement without the use of a spring, whenever a child is not pushing the frame towards the engaged position.
