Abstract:
A transfer beam conveyor comprises a first elongated support structure, a second elongated support structure, an arrangement for mounting the first structure at a stationary position with respect to the length of the conveyor, and an arrangement for mounting the second structure for longitudinal movement relative to the conveyor and to the first structure. A mechanism is provided for reciprocating the second structure longitudinally of the first structure, together with mechanism for elevating each of the support structures so that a number of loads can be indexed therealong at essentially constant elevation.
Abstract:
Mill roll changing apparatus for positioning transversely of a rolling mill pass line and arranged for receiving and inserting mill rolls relative to a juxtaposed mill stand comprises a movable floor section normally covering a roll changing pit adjacent the mill stand, a support structure for the floor section and positionable within the pit, and a number of rails on the floor section. Driving mechanism is provided for moving the floor section laterally of the support structure in a direction generally parallel to the mill pass line so that selected pairs of the floor section rails can be laterally aligned with a pair of rails within the mill stand. An elevating mechanism mountable within the pit is structured for elevating the floor section to a first position above an existing floor surrounding the pit so that the floor section can be moved laterally thereof and to a second position whereat the floor section is flush with the existing floor and to a third position whereat the floor section is recessed within the roll-changing pit.
Abstract:
An entry guide mechanism comprises upper and lower platens positioned to receive an elongated workpiece therebetween. A pivotably mounted support is secured to the upper platen for pivotally supporting the upper platen, and a pivotally mounted support is secured to the lower platen for pivotally mounting the lower platen. An angularly displacing drive mechanism is secured to at least one of the pivoted supports to pivot portions of the platens toward one another to clamp the workpiece therebetween. The pivotal mountings for the platens conform the attitudes thereof with that of an adjacent segment of the workpiece.
Abstract:
A coupling for a mill roll and the like comprises a connector having a coupling bore therein, with the bore having a first surface shaped for close fitting engagement with a neck portion of the roll adjacent one extremity of the coupling engagement therebetween and a second surface shaped for close fitting engagement with the roll neck adjacent the opposite extremity of such engagement and a third surface disposed generally between the first and said second surfaces shaped for an increasingly close fit with the roll neck as the roll neck is increasingly inserted into the connector.
Abstract:
A pass line adjustment mechanism for a rolling mill stand or the like comprises a load bearing arrangement mounted in an upper portion of a housing for said mill stand and juxtaposed to a bearing chock for a back-up roll of the mill stand, and an adjustment block disposed for bearing insertion between the bearing arrangement and the bearing chock for load transmission purposes. The adjustment block includes a plurality of stepped surfaces disposed for selected engagement with one of the bearing arrangement and the bearing chock to vary the separating distance between the bearing arrangement and the bearing chock.
Abstract:
A keeper arrangement for a pin or shaft or the like, comprises a machine structure or like component having a counter-sunk recess intersecting a passage for the pin or shaft. The pin or shaft, when inserted into the passage, has a slot therein extending complementarily with the recess. A keeper plate is seated in the recess, where the plate is retained, and extends into the juxtaposed slot of the pin or shaft.
Abstract:
A thrust mechanism on a shaft structure comprises a member slidably mounted on the structure for movement longitudinally thereof, stop means positioned on the structure at the terminus of such movement, and first and second thrust members. The first thrust member is slidably mounted on the structure for movement longitudinally thereof into bearing contact with the slidable member. Means are provided for slidably mounting the first thrust member against turning movement thereof relative to the structure. Second stop means are provided on the shaft structure, together with means for mounting the second thrust member against the second stop means for turning movement thereof relative to the shaft structure. Means are provided for securing the second thrust member to the structure against further turning movement thereof following a predetermined limited angular displacement of the second thrust member, together with means on at least one of the thrust members and engageable with the other of the thrust members for urging the first thrust member and the slidable member against the first stop means and for urging the second thrust member against the second stop means.
